We do tons of scanning where I work. Lately, one of our scanners has not been picking up red colors. Its a black and white scanner. I checked to see if a red filter had been put in by mistake, but there wasn't. Have any of you guys had this problem before? Its kind of transient too. It occurs for awhile then goes away. Thanks!

As scanner lamps age, they tend to shine a kind of pinkish light insteat of pure white. This will cause colors on the "red end" of the spectrum not to show up accurately, or for the whole image to take on a "blue shift."
Unless your image is moving toward the scanner at nearly the speed of light, I would suspect the lamp is failing.
Depending on the make, model, age, and value of the scanner, it may be more cost effective to buy new. Stoopid disposable society.
Its a big business, so they can afford a new lamp. I will let my manager know though. Thanks for your help.
