I recently got a beige G3 tower from a aution. It will not see any hard drive I put in it. It came with a 8GB apple IDE Drive, that it doesn't see, but worked at one time. I put in a known working 45GB IDE drive, didn't see it. The only thing that I can do it boot into the OS 9 CD. I'm losted at what to do. Can any one help?
The PRAM battery is fine by the way.
Thanks
does it see any ide drive? ie, cd-rom?
It wont recognize most drives ive discovered, i got a pc lappy drive and it wont find that, or an ide cd-rom drive i stole from a pc.
No idea, actaully.
The CD_ROM Drive is on the same IDE cable. the cable is good.
:?
Have you tried putting the HD and CD-ROM on sperate IDE cables? Have you tried changing the order of the devices on the cable?

I have put the HD on a it's own IDE cable. NOTHING
I switched the cables around. NOTHING
I have checked to see if the jumpers are messed up. everything is how it shows on the HD itself.
I'm to the point were I just want to give up, and toss the whole thing out.
I think it the hard drive. it must be crap
thanks everyone.

Doesn't the g3 have scsi onboard? I thought it was one of the last to have it. If all else fails, use that.

yea it does... that might be a good way to hook up a hd until you get the IDE stuff working
