powerbook duo core is my vote but i like powerbook dual core, or powerbook D/C.
I realize the decision hasn't come down yet...
But who's going to notify Apple marketing of our decision? We can't have them marketing the wrong name, now can we?
...though PowerBook DC sounds cool...
PowerBook CoreDuo sounds just fine to me too.
It's a crying shame to loose the name PowerBook.
Maybe the symbol could be something like this: \_ or _/ or even /_
It doesn't work in FireFox, but they do show up in Safari 2.
FOr the same reason they quit the Apple II series SO MANY Times....so they can fail and come back to the name that just works!
I vote for Powerbook Core Duo.
Cheers,
The Czar
Mactop.
I have been calling my Powerbook a Mactop for a year now, so as to contrast it with my old Delltop...It would be fitting for the new duo.
I think that it should be called the HardCoreBook. The new (see-through ? ) iBook could then be the SoftCoreBook...
Furthermore, I think that Apple should just call the damn thing what ever they like, it's not like our opinion matter anyway.
did this thread just die... or what?
Oops! Ok, tallying votes.
You guys are terrible at following directions.
ProBook received 6 votes.
PowerBook Core Duo received 5.
PowerBook Duo received 2, even though it wasn't on the list.
A single write-in vote was received for each of the following:
Powerbook Dual
iDPowerbook
Mactop
HardCoreBook
The user (who shall remain anonymous!) voting for "Powerbook Dual" also submitted a vote for "PowerBook Duo". Generously, he was not disqualified.
FunnymanSE30's vote was counted for "PowerBook Core Duo", even though he voted for "PowerBook duo core".
theholymacintosh's vote is thrown out on the grounds that it is utterly ambiguous which one he's voting for.
The winner is… ProBook!
Please inform all your friends and fellow geeks.
for you guys who cant veiw the text right, upgrade your Firefox! i'm useing 1.5 and i see everything fine.
Ditto, works fine for me too. Also, I will now be using "probook" to describe it when talking to friends. That sounds soooo much cooler than the lame name apple gave it
Remember when we did this with the Mac Mini? heh, I am actually calling it the mac mini now. I don't know if mini mac would stick
safari that came with osx.3 does it just fine.
i think all yalls is crazy!
peace and love

Do we actually have anyone in favour of the name MacBook Pro?
Because I am.
I know i'm going to be killed for this.
No. Killing is too quick and final. Ostracized. Spurned. Demoted from Second Looie to Private. Obliged to subtract each future post from the present total of posts. Forced to write all posts in spaghetti BASIC.
When there was no processor but Motorola 68k: PowerBook.
When the Consortium struck back: PowerBook PPC
When new generations of processor arrived: PowerBook G3 and PowerBook G4
Now another manufacturer's cpu: why not PowerBook DualCore?
PowerBook spares us all the idiocies of marketing hype and inspired (pant! slaver!) new names, by emphasizing the incremental nature of the PB's growth and its heritage and lineage, and always leaving out direct reference to the cpu's maker. Good thinking. Whose cpu will be next?

The iIntel. Intel inside.
I'm staying with MacBook.
Ask a non-Applefritter member and they won't know what the heck you're talking about.
Same with Apple Tech.
I find it also highly unlikely Apple will change the name thanks to 30 or 40 votes.
They may not make it official at Apple, but we all know which machine is meant when someone posts about a "Molar Mac." It's a more fun name that trying to spit out G3 AIO. I think a PowerBook Core Duo sounds much more fun to own than a MacBook Pro.
How about calling it the Duo Dock? After all, this is a computer with the "Duo" chip that you can "Dock" your iPod to.
http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=duodock&performa=off&sort=date&order=ASC
How about calling it the AMD? AMD would stand for the Apple Macintosh Duo or Apple MacBook Duo or Acronym Melt Down or Apple Marketing Distortion-field. Using the acronym AMD, Apple could easily ramp up their line of computers in the future to use chips produced by AMD.
I once had the job title of Macintosh Application Developer, I was MAD, completely MAD.
Duo was already used...and it would confuse the heck out of an old-timer like myself. I'd think it was one of those dockable Macs that was really little.
Does Jobs have any daughters from his current marriage? Might as well use the same technique that was used to name Lisa. (No, it does NOT stand for Local Integrated Software Architecture...doesn't take a genius to figure out they made that up as a quick cover-up)
PowerBook and nothing else.
Though if it's going to be called MacBook, I imagine eventually we'll be calling them mBooks...
(no relation to AT&T Wireless' ill-fated mLife, of course)
How about bookbook goose
I kind of like "Arch Deluxe"!!!
because saying macbook pro is such a mouthful, and if the macpro is the desktop equivalent of the macbook pro (yeh right), then it should reflect that.
you can call that
THE BOOK
