Anyone here familiar with this?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DISK-II-emulator-for-Apple-II-series-computers-/151467861733?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23443026e5
Is it:
A) Better than sliced bread and bottled beer?
Okay?
C) Not much better than a kick in the nuts?
BillO,
(D) None of the above. lol
Yup.
Seen these on eBay.
Made in Bulgaria.
Uses SD instead of CF Card.
I'm not sure about file transfers though.
I'm still looking into that.
With all the CF gear I have right now I don't know about switching to SD.
Steven
I bought 2 of them. Pretty cool device. Plugs into the Disk ][ card, same as a Disk ][ would, only this nifty little sucker allows you to swap disk images with the push of a button. There's a digital readout that displays the disk number. (1-9, A-F)
I bought 2 so I could emulate both drives at once. (obviously) Worth it IMHO. Obviously not as cheap as the real thing, but definitely in the realm of cool.
I too have two of them. Best $$ I've spent so far in the past year+ since I got back into this.
It works flawlessly, is limited to .DSK images but is also significantly cheaper than the CFFA3000 I have, as it should be when comparing what one does vs. the other (I'm not by the way)
I have recommended it to many people as a nice easy way to get a ton of software off the internet and instantly onto an Apple II with no wires, no software transfers, modems, aerial cards, audio cables etc. Just plug the SD card into your modern PC, put the files into one of the folders on it (0-9 and a-f) pull it out of the modern PC, stick it into the reader plugged into your Disk ][ controller and turn on the power on your Apple II.
Done.

One is on it's way to me.
Thanks for the input folks!
While I would not expect you to have it yet as it's coming from Bulgaria, let us know how you make out once you receive the reader.
Zan
Will do.
It may take a little while as they took 5 days to put it in the mail. Other than that, Bulgaria is usually only about 2 weeks to Canada.
Yet another disk emulator.
YADE
I just bought one.
It should be fun.
Steven
My YADE arrived today.
SO far there seems to be some interference with the "Interesting Device", but more research is required.
More to come... eventually. Family matters may keep me away for a time...
BillO and all,
Mine is in the mail.
The next thread will be called, "Fascinating device".
After I see that, I will need a quitting device.
If we're lucky, the next thing will be (Drum Roll Please)...
The New Improved "C Card" based on Jeff Mazur's original design.
I would still like to see a KickStarter Project for this.
Steven
Well, not sure what I was talking about earlier, but it seems to be working fine now. Even with the "Interesting Device".
Speed is dependent on the SD card as one might expect.
It does not seem to like two old SD cards I have (they are both class 1) Reads are okay, but they seem to get corrupt easily with writes.
Anything class 4 or better works just fine.
User interface is easy and intuitive and it takes no time at all to set up SD cards for use with it.
With disk media becoming scarce and expensive, it's a really good alternative. Overall I give it a B+ rating. Better than merely okay, but not quite as good as bottled beer and sliced bread.
BillO,
My SD Emulator arrived this afternoon.
When I signed for it the USPS Delivery person looked at me strangely. lol
I said "Cool! This is my package from Bulgaria, I've been waiting for this!"
She just looked at me like I was out of my mind.
Steven
Hi Steven, please give your full report on this device. thanks.
Probably thought you were an international man of mystery with a microfilm reader....
Steven, have you had a chance to try it out? What are your thoughts?
BillO,
No. Not yet.
It is just sitting there right now expectantly.
(I can feel it stare at me when I walk by) lol
There is a lot going on right now and I may not get the chance to try it
until after the first of the year.
