Greetings! I have some old Macintosh games that I used to play on my Dad's Macintosh 51K, which he no longer has. The games are:
Beyond Dark Castle
Sim City
Arkanoid
The Ancient Art of War at Sea
Pinball Construction Set
Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Simulator
I've been told that a Macintosh SE, or a Macintosh Classic would be the way to go, partly because the 512K is so expensive now. What do you all think?
Yep, both are a good close equivalent with their 68000 CPU. The only potential Gotcha will be if any of these games are written using undocumented entry points in the 64k ROM. They will bomb on your newer Mac.
I think all of what you've listed is fine, however.
OK, thanks! Which Macintosh would be cheaper to buy on eBay? The SEs can get pretty pricey, but there were probably more of them made; though I don't know for sure.
Ah, now you're asking the wrong guy. I've never bought a Macintosh on eBay (thank God).
I'm guessing that the Macintosh Classic would be cheaper. It was cheaper back in the 90s when it was new and for sale. That's the oldest Mac I now have.
(I once had an SE/30, but that's a story for another time)
dave4macs,
Dave is right.
Try going with a Classic or Classic II.
The prices on eBay are all over the place
for these units.
Depending on condition and if they're Operational
they can run from $29.00 (Plus S&H) to over $100.00.
Sometimes if you catch them just right you can get a good deal.
***Remember to Check your OS to make sure the
games you want to play will work***

Good point. The Macintosh Classic will run every operating system that the Mac 512k will run.
(Ask me how I know )
The only problem about the mac classic is that the caps go bad on the mother board. But you can get them replaced by this guy at http://www.maccaps.com/MacCaps/Repair_Service.html, He is good at what he does.
I have a Macintosh Performa 575.
It seems to have the right CPU and it can use the Apple iie card.
Would this Macintosh be good for this also?
