Hi folks,
I created a port of the C64 version of Stunt Car Racer to the Apple II. Here's a video demonstration with a download link in the description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2uZCSfIqR4
All it needs is 48K RAM to run. Since I have no access to real hardware, I could only test the game with AppleWin, and I'd love to know if it actually works as intended on the real deal.
Welcome, cobbpg. Great project! Posts here are meant to remain useful, into perpetuity. May I edit your post to directly attach the download link and an image of the game?
Absolutely, please go ahead!
Just for fun: title screen on "real hardware" - on a beautiful green monochrome monitor... :-)

(Unfortunately I don't have a joystick for this machine, so I only made it to the main menu...)
I just published an article that details the technical implementation of this port. It also has a long section introducing Apple II high-res graphics in the way I learned to understand it. I'd be curious to hear if anyone has better ideas or different opinions on how to present this topic.
And over on the Apple II Infinitum Slack there's plenty of excitement about your work, and appreciation for how challenging the graphics modes make something like this. My guess about the lack of buzz is... there's a lot of active Apple development so it gets lost in the noise (unfairly?), and possibly that you're not plugged in to the right discussion venues. (Not to disparage it, but this forum is a little off the beaten track. Keeps it focused!)
I'm glad to hear this, it's just a pity that so many discussions are locked away in proprietary spaces nowadays. Forums might be old-fashioned, but they seem to have better longevity than pretty much any alternative. Anyway, as long as the news spreads some way, I'm happy!
