Hi All,

I'm really hoping that someone on here can help me.

One of my best friends passed away just over a year ago from a brain tumour. We'd worked together at Sun for many years, and I regularly stayed with him and his family when I was working out of the Camberley UK offices.

When I was helping his widow go through his tech stuff, I found the computers which started it all for him... his Apple II's.
I've not yet looked at them too closely, but I know that the X2 caps in the PSU will need to be changed before we can try to power them on.

His family would very much like to get the computers working again, and it's with this, that I'd really appreciate some help.

I've included some pics below of the systems in question. Next step is to work out what X2 caps are needed. If anyone knows, or can point me in the right direction, that would be great. Unfortunately, I don't have physical access to the machines at the moment, as I now live about 300 miles away from them.

I'm planning to attend a local meet up of Acorn (BBC Micro etc.) users from the 1st-3rd June near his home, and we're really hoping to get everything up and running over that weekend. Any other tips on diagnostics or troubleshooting would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy.

The Heuristics Speech

The Heuristics Speech Recognition card in photo RESIZED002.PNG is a rare card and should add value to the system.

Been working on these

Been working on these machines today. Have got the IIe working but the Europlus is behaving weirdly.

We've checked the PSU, changed the X2 caps and ensured all voltages are good under load.

I've removed, cleaned and reseated all the chips.

However, on power on the screen is a grid of solid white squares. Removing the ROM SPCL results in a solid white background.

Removing all the RAM results in the same problem. All white squares, so I'm guessing I can rule that out as a cause.

The 6502 works fine in another machine.

At this point, I'm wondering about the ROMs.

Has anyone see this before?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Andy.
