Original Apple II - S/N 12989 For Sale

Hi,

I have an Apple II computer, Serial No: 12989, for sale.

All original except for keyboard. Original keyboard had a few keys that did not work (tried usual techniques to get keys working, but no go). Replace keyboard with early Apple II+ (2-piece keyboard), but kept original Power key and key cap. All keys function properly and have look of original Apple II one-piece keyboard. I have the original one-piece keyboard if new owner would like.

Includes Programmer's Aid ROM on motherboard
Performed RAM test per Programmer's Aid ROM instructions. All 48K RAM passes tests.

Include Applesoft ROM card. Card works as expected. With ROM card switch down, allows Apple II computer to power on with Integer Basic ROMs (at power on get '*' prompt, cntrl-B yields '>' prompt). With ROM card switch up, allows Apple II compeer to power on with Applesoft/auto-start ROMs (at power on get 'Apple ][' at top of screen and ']' prompt.

Verified that this Apple II computer will load cassette programs successfully so cassette interface works.

Verified that this Apple II computer will load disk programs successfully with Disk II interface card and Disk II drive (not included).

This original Apple II is in good, working order.

See included pictures of external case and internal components. (Sanyo monitor in pictures not included)

Price: $1200.00

I live in Ventura County, California and would like to sell the Apple II to a local person. I would like the new owner to be able to see the Apple II in person before purchasing, but I am willing to ship the computer.

Thanks,

-Gil

Is it me or the unit looked like a frankenstein machine? the presence of the encoder board under the keyboard suggests the keyboard may have been replaced at some point.

Yes. The keyboard was replaced. I stated that in the description. I switched the "Power" key from the flat Apple II+ one to the raised Apple II one. I like the original look of the raised Apple II one. If that constitutes qualification as a "frankenstein machine" then I guess it is. I replaced the keyboard to make the computer functional- all keys working. I like being able to use the Apple II computer. With non-functioning keys I could not use the computer to type in and run Integer Basic and Applesoft Basic programs. I have the original one-piece keyboard and will include it with the sale if the new owner wishes. Maybe the new owner can get all the keys on the original keyboard working.

Here is my description:

"Original keyboard had a few keys that did not work (tried usual techniques to get keys working, but no go). Replace keyboard with early Apple II+ (2-piece keyboard), but kept original Power key and key cap. All keys function properly and have look of original Apple II one-piece keyboard. I have the original one-piece keyboard if new owner would like."

I am not trying to fool anyone. I am sorry if the keyboard description/pics gets people to think in that manner. I just would like to get this Apple II into the hands of a fellow fan/hobbyist/collector. Thanks.

sorry, I wasn't trying to insinuate that. I should be reading through your description, but instead I went directly for the pics...

Is the serial on the motherboard just "4" or is my vision really that bad?

Yes. It is just a 4. I am not sure what to make of this. I think, myself, that it is possible that it is the 4th motherboard for that calendar year that the computer was manufactured, but this is just conjecture on my part. What I can tell you is that it is the motherboard that was in the computer when I purchased it back in 1982-83. I purchased it from a computer store in Burbank, Ca. (the store that is on the label in one of the pictures). The store employee that sold me the computer told me it was the manager's old computer. I was about to purchase an Apple IIe with one disk drive, but then I saw this original Apple II and it had 2 disk drives. A friend of mine had an original Apple II. I always liked that computer- the original Apple II. So when I it came to a choice between the Apple IIe and original Apple II, I chose the original Apple II. Of course, later on I bought an Apple IIe (when newer software required 128K and greater).

Can I ask you what model of Sanyo that monitor is? I've always wanted to get one of those down the road but don't know the model numbers well.

Sure. The Sanyo monitor model number is VM-4509. I do have another one in the garage. I have not used it in a while, but it should work. I can check it out if you are interested.

Well, The original Apple II is still for sale. I guess the $1200 asking price is too high. I'd really like to get this Apple II into the hands of a hobbyist/fan/collector. I am willing to sell it for less than my original asking price. Make me an offer!
Thanks,

-Gil
