MacBook won't turn on after macOS Catalina won

I downloaded the new macOS Catalina last night and started having issues with my volume and laptop freezing. So I decided to try and out my laptop in a safe mode using the shift + power button, which never worked for me. I decided to just restart my computer the regular way and it’s just been stuck on the apple loading screen. I have tried doing disk utility recovery. At first, everything was okay but then I started getting the cross match error when I ran the first aid option. I have tried reinstalling the os but I cannot because my hard drive space is somehow now out of storage space, which it wasn’t before. I really don’t want to have to wipe my hard drive clean because I have a video I was working on in Final Cut Pro along with other files. I do have A old timeshare backup from February/March. But I would like to keep my files if possible. What can I do??? Safe mode never worked, I’ve tried the all the reset commands and they did nothing. My computer is now stuck on a boot cycle load that turns on and then restarts.

Start your computer in target

Start your computer in target disk mode (hold down T). This will allow you to connect it to another computer via Thunderbolt in the manner of an external hard drive, allowing you to copy your data off.

Hi Tom, thanks for your reply. I've tried to transfer files in target mode. But I had no luck. I'm using MacBook Air 2018. It seems this Mac is embbed with Apple T2 chip encryption and has a unique ID for encryption. So, it's impossible to access data in one internal SSD on another Mac...I've also check the Time Machine, but couldn't find anything. What should I do?

I think it should just ask

I think it should just ask for your password… but if it's being difficult, boot into recovery mode, open Startup Security Utility, and turn off the firmware password and secure boot.

Hello Tom, Many thanks for

Hello Tom,

Many thanks for your reply. I've managed to solve the issue and recovered my lost data.

I've attempted to connect my MacBook Air and my sister's MacBook Pro via thunderbolt cable. What I have done so far: plugged both machines together with the thunderbolt cable, AC power on for both, booted up the MacBook Air into target disk mode holding T down. Result: the MacBook Air screen had 2 icons on it: thunderbolt and target disk mode, and its HD didn't NOT show in my sister's MacBook Pro. It seems the MacBook Air was not functioning and its HD was completely failing...So I have no luck with target disk mode.

I read many articles. All of them indicate it's impossible to recover data from T2-secured Mac computers. I almost gave up until I found this article. It recommended a commercial data recovery tool called iBoysoft. I tried the tool and it got my lost files finally. I hope this will work for anyone who has the same issue.

I'm surprised you didn't think of this sooner, having already used iBoySoft to downgrade a MacBook Air to Mojave on March 12, recover a Skyrim auto-save on March 31, recover data from a 5-year-old mechanical drive on Apri 1, from a corrupted Powershot A720 SD card on April 29, from a corrupted HTC One SD card on May 7, from an encrypted laptop drive on May 15, to format a drive on June 4, and to recover data from a corrupted Sandisk SD card on June 4.

Since you're legitimately participating in other threads, I'm not going to ban you, but you may no longer post outside links.
