Hi guys,
I have been trying to find a working copy of S.A.M (Software Automatic Mouth)
After hours of searching the web I have only found 3 downloadable files that don't seem to work on my IIc.
Does anyone here know where I can find a working image file of the bootable disk?
Thanks!
More information about the software
S.A.M. (Software Automated Mouth) is a primitive speech synthesis software for the Apple II that could optionally be used with a slightly better speaker mounted on a card. The card was not intelligent, it was simply a better sounding speaker with associated electronics.
Looks like this:

This works on a II+, IIe and IIc. Found at macgui.com
sam.dsk_.zip
Thanks, yes, I think there were two versions of the software.
One version didn't require additional hardware, and one version required the mentioned card with a speaker.
It's really hard to find useful info about S.A.M online, but there is a YT clip that shows an Apple IIc running the software, so it should work.
The speaker works with the software. It makes all the speech more intelligible.
I have a clone of the SAM board in one of my //e. It works with the disk images available on Asimov.
The mirror referenced is here, the S.A.M .dsk file is in this folder mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/images/sound
Ok, thanks.
Then I'm definitely doing something wrong.
I tried as the manual instructs. I typed "BLOAD SAM"
I also tried "CALL -151" first.
But I just keep getting error #8
I can load other apps so the IIc is probably working
I only have one drive so I can't list the content on the diskette to see what's on it (CAT). Is there a way to do this with only one drive?
Works fine in AppleWin when you simply type "RUN S.A.M."
I also tried it on my Apple II+ machine. Works pretty well too without the SAM card. I can clearly understand what is being said through the speaker.

The disk bootup screen tells you exactly what to do:
"RUN S.A.M."
Don't over think it.
Thanks guys,
I got it running with "RUN S.A.M." as suggested.
Apparently, the manual I found online was for some other version.
Unfortunately, I only got it running twice. most of the time it just crashes.
I made a new copy on a fresh floppy but got the same result.
I have tested my drive with other disks and it works consistently with other apps.
Never had this happened to me before on any system or software, so I'm not sure what might be causing this.
Thanks
What version is your Apple II and what hardware are you using to run programs downloaded from the Net on it?
Please provide as much information as possible. If it's crashing, post a picture of the crash screen.
Here's the software version that I found when I went looking for it:

While this works, the 66 sector binary is full of junk and appears to be a pirate rip. I remember having a disk which was more like an SDK, but I haven't yet pulled my collection out of its SIT, SHK, Syquest 210MB home.
Thanks,
I'm using an Apple //c.
The real floppy was written with ADTPro.
I wrote the image to a new and unused floppy twice to make sure it wasn't a bad floppy.
The drive works fine with mystery house and other floppies made the same way.
The plan was to let the //c do the talking in the outro of a video.
But since I only managed to make it run twice, I had to use an emulator online to add some of the speech in the video.
If I can find a better image file I'd love to let the //c do a lot more of the talking in the next video :)
