Fried my laser128

Hello ok i have fried my apple IIgs and my trusty laser 128.
I got them working fine but i have a brilliant idea i have take my old apple 5.25 drive the one that have a flat ribbon cable purchased a idc to d19 adapter and connected it to a apple IIe worked fine booted disk, then got the brilliant idea to hook it to my apple IIgs don't do anything the computer boot but was unable to boot from the floppys. So i think it was not compatible then i connected it to my laser128 and the laser got a horrible burning smell from it bad very bad.

The aftermath was this.
The laser 128 boot and seem to work fine but the charters on the screen look corrupted.
The appleIIgs works but now when i connect my unidisk driver tries to boot to get a prodos error on every disk i get on it.

Any ideas how i can get this fix Sad ?.

Thanks.

Maybe I have a brilliant idea, tell us (if you can) EXACTLY, PRECISELY, ACCURATELY, SPECIFICALLY, DESCRIPTIVELY if what or how, and/or when or WHAT was happening when two of your computers got fried maybe the same time???????????

---WHAT were the CIRCUMSTANCES, or the EVENTS that took place just before your computers got fried?---

Because maybe it's BRILLIANT to take a wild guess and say that if you did something to those two computers then maybe your ACTIONS may tell us the CAUSE??????????

I don't like to judge that much but, That's a little bit harsh for a guy who accidentally killed the IWM in his iigs and his laser.

Re: Fried my laser128

Let me tell the full story as a scammer used to say "each and everything"

First all i have my nice dandy handy lovely laser128 apple IIgs and Apple IIe connected side to side.
What i want to do was to write using ADT pro images on a 5.25 drive on my IIgs, and then use the disks on the build in disk drive that the laser128, like the laser128 "portability" i take it to work to "amaze" my coworkers on the infinity possibility of the apple II line.

Lucky me!, finally i got a 800k floppy drive and a real clone 5.25 floppy drive (before only got a HDDD 3.5 drive emulate a 5.25 waited years for an update firmware and they website disappear the laser don´t even boot from it).

Then i tested the clone 5.25 floppy drive using a IDC to DB19 adapter that i got from ebay on my trusty IIe and worked very well so i got a great idea! use ADT-PRO to get images into floppy's and play them on the laser but i don´t have a super serial card on my IIe :(!.

So connected it to the IIgs and got nothing OK no problem! ,let test if i can duplicate floppy's connecting it to the laser....... when i power the laser on got burning smell not good..... then you got the fully history i have to mention that i was quite drunk during this process.

So the aftermath is not good at all i got some pictures here to illustrate this madness.

First the culprit the clone drive!

Then my trusty IIgs and IIc

Now the death laser notice the bizarre corruption on the screen, floppy keyboard etc work great games and software load but the screen look horrible any ideas on what is fucked up can be the video ram?.

Then this is the culprit !!

And this is the set up !

You are right.

BUT...

What would have been the course of events if I had not done this?

Now he says that he was drunk.

Well.. I think I am going to get drunk now.

I happen to like Jack Daniels.

If I am not mistaken, the IWM chip can be pulled from a Liron card.

So according to your suggestion, he should buy that set of three Liron cards on sale now on Ebay so he can get his hands on three IWM chips and then he'll be good to go.

Re: Fried my laser128

Breaking news!, tested the gs and the damage to the floppy controller is only partial it don´t boot from mine hddd drive (emulted 5.25 drive) but works charms from the 3.5 800k one i don´t need to boot 5.25 disks on the IIgs so this is not a issue any more.

But my laser 128 continue to be fucked up so any sugestions ?.

Also gonna get drunk but prefer beer in my case, this time don´t gonna tuch any apples.

Re: Fried my laser128

Well I don't quite understand this thread but let me venture a guess that you hooked a floppy drive data cable to one computer while the drive was powered from another computer?
That causes what's called a ground fault and can fry anything in the path from one ground circuit to the other. My advice would be follow your nose because if a silicone chip burned
up it will still stink with no power if you smell closely. That odor takes a long time to go away.

Re: Fried my laser128

What i have done is using a IDC19 adapter to DB19 to connect a very old apple II drive to a laser 128 and apple IIgs in the smartdrive port this turn out to be very very bad never ever do it.

The good news is i was able to fix my laser 128 the video buffer IC U13 resulted to be the culprit its a CD74HCT244E replaced it and now works fine and dandy :D.

Thank you for your kind help.
