Hi all:
Does anyone know of a good source, outside the standard eBay, to find flyback transformers for old CRTs? I need to replace one in an Amdek 300A.
Thanks,
Mark

You could try searching "eCrater" or "Technotronic Dimensions" for flybacks, and some of the specialty industrial suppliers like Radwell or Artisan Technology Group. There used to be many more suppliers, but links to their web sites have mostly rotted away, and one can only assume they went out of business.
One of the suppliers of replacement FBTs, HR Diemen, still seems to be in business. They have North American distributors.

I think the Amdek 300A uses a Sampo FB-2006.
Some designs have been replicated in China and sold on Aliexpress. There is also the possibility, if you are so inclined, of rebuilding the flyback yourself.
I never thought about rebuilding the transformer. I'll start Googling, but do you have any specific resources or expertise you'd recommend?
I saw some pages that described it, but don't have bookmarks of them. I think there might be something on the EEVBlog Forum, or the webpages of Big Clive or Nyle Steiner about it. A lot depends on how the flyback failed. If it is an insulation failure, it's sometimes possible to replace the epoxy. Sometimes the clip that keeps the core compressed rust and fails, and that can be replaced with a taught steel cable to serve the same purpose. At the extreme if there is a short turn or break in the winding it can be rewound using a simple jig. Winding transformers is a broader subject and will be covered in more detail in more places, because custom transformers are sometimes required for radio or tesla coil experiments.
If you are considering this for fun and to improve your skills/knowledge I am all for it, but don't do it just because you can't find the exact model that matches the flyback in your monitor. In my experience these flybacks are highly interchangeable, so of you find one that is for a 12" monochrome monitor from the same time period, there is a good chance it will work. The size of the CRT must match though, because the high voltage required is directly proportional to its size.
Thanks! That is good to know. My searches have been for the specific model. I'll start expanding the search to see what others might be interchangeable.
Rebuilding it sounded like a good option, but you were spot on, it was out of a need for a replacement, not for fun.
The solution of a compatible alternate sounds much better. :-)
That's interesting. I have a good 12" Apple monitor II (A2M2010) sitting around, which is only missing a working flyback. I was waiting for a suitable parts donor/mainboard to show up. Are there any suggestions which other flybacks could work in this monitor - replacing the original "FMA-1245CL / TMP-330"? The original part number doesn't show up anywhere, so it's either a case of finding a donor or a suitable replacement...
Yikes! Very unusual winding arrangement and ratios. I couldn’t match it with any of my schematics of more common 12" monochrome monitors.
