What's your favorite terminal emulator for the Apple IIe and why?
Backstory:
I recently got a super serial card and have been trying different term programs to connect to an rs232 wifi modem. I've tried dcom (works but slow), proterm (couldn't get more than gibberish characters regardless of settings!), and modem mgr (works, seems best so far).
I used Dcom when I needed usable vt100 emulation and ProTerm most of the time otherwise.
Thanks for the response!
Looks like there was a similar question not too long ago here: https://www.applefritter.com/content/connecting-bbs-using-apple-iie
but that thread got kinda sidetracked by the discussion on enhanced versus unenhanced and what would run. But I see proterm was suggested in that thread as well.
Will proterm work for something like this? I never got it talking to my rs232 wifi modem. Has anyone had any luck getting it working for this use case?
I've used proterm on my //c and IIgs to talk to my wimodem232 no problem. Infact I tried one or two others, and had trouble. Proterm worked great, once I found the proper initialization strings. Which I haven't had to mess with in like 25 years...
Here is the link to advice on init strings for the Wimodem232.
Great info, thank you. Out of curiosity what baud rates are you operating at?
The //c has a wonky serial port (mine is even worse as it's the original that didn't use a proper oscillator), and didn't want to go above 2400. My IIgs I believe I had running at 9600. I honestly haven't used it with either for a while though, so not entirely sure.
