Has anyone successfully used a Belkin CardBus PCI adapter in a Mac?
I am running 9.1 with one of these adapters and could use some real world insight into what I am doing wrong...

I have a cardbus adapter installed with a WiFi card inserted. I am sure I may need some kind of extension for the card, but no idea what...
When I try to set up my network connection, my only choices are modem, Ethernet (built-in), and AppleTalk. Someone out there ever add WiFi to a PM8x00 or any other Classic desktop?
BTW - The end goal here is to use a WaveLAN card in order to go WiFi on this Mac. From trolling the web, I can see that if this were a laptop, the AirPort software *should* natively support the card I have chosen. Being that it is a desktop, I am unable to install this software from the OS9.1 disk. I also must contend with the fact that I have a CardBus adapter installed - still not sure if this is a source of my problem or not. Apple System Profiler does not see the WaveLAN card installed when it is inserted.
I think you need to seek out Lucent WaveLAN drivers, as the Apple drivers only work if the card is in an Airport slot. If memory serves me correctly, the drivers will work with a PCI adaptor, but only if it's a PCMCIA (16-bit) WaveLAN card; it's also not hot-swappable with the PCI adaptor.
(Broadcom based 802.11g cards only work with Mac OS X)
The card is a Lucent, branded as WaveACCESS Gold. Model on back indicates it is PC24E-H-FC. Other markings indicate it is 16-bit.
I was having trouble locating the driver for this card on the Orinoco website (not sure where else to look...) If you can point (shove) me in the right direction, that would be awesome.
While I do not currently plan on hot-swapping anything (since it is intended to be a dedicated receptacle for the WiFi card), I did not know this - Thanks!

Got the driver installed and the Control Panel seems to run alright - but it tells me there is no card installed.
I know the card I am using (the Bronze from my newton) is a working card and this is not working here either (my attempt to rule out the card as the problem). The Mac is not recognizing the fact that a card is seated in the cardbus slot.
I thought I ruled this out already, but let me ask the dumb question - do I need software for the Mac to recognize that I have a cardbus (Belkin) PCI card installed??
What is the system profiler reporting?
Also, I believe Lucent/Oronico/Whatever sold a card that came in its own PCI/Cardbus adaptor. This might be worth looking into, perhaps this Belkin model is doing something "funny".

It's a smart PCI-CardBus bridge (A quick google for "pci 1180 0475" told me this via. the linux kernel source). Technically it's possible to make it work but you'll need to see if drivers exist for the Mac (don't get your hopes up).
If you can find a 'dumb' PCI-PCMCIA adaptor then you might have a better chance of getting it working. (Although I'm still yet to find something telling me that it *will* work, the fundamental similarity between PCI and PCMCIA/CardBus, and how the Mac treats them, tells me that it should 'just work')
A 'dumb' card might have some level converters on it, maybe some simple buffering, but shouldn't have anything fancy like a controller chip at all.

Saw something recently that suggested that the laptops had an extension for PCMCIA. Not sure how to get this to install on a desktop sine the installer won't let me see those types of extensions (or I am wrong)...
Do you have a laptop you could install on, and then copy the necessary files over?
I'm working on this. My only option is my ibook which requires me to clear space and reformat the drive to something compatible with Classic.
I will work on this over the weekend.
My original plan was to install OS 9 onto my laptop and then move the needed extension onto Connie in order to support the Belkin CardBus adapter. Everything I have read indicates that this is the solution I need for my current configuration. The problem is that I do not currently have a laptop that can take an install of OS 9 like I thought.
At this time, I need to have an offline discussion with anyone that has OS 9.1 installed on a laptop and has the cardbus extension.
If you are such a person, please shoot me a PM as I am very interested in your assistance.

Ran 'Wish I were a...' and then set parms to say the 8600 was a PowerBook 5300. Ran installer to add support for CardBus stuff.
Belkin PCI CardBus adapter still not recognizing installed WiFi card.
Card is Lucent WaveLAN known to work on my Newton MP2100 - it's a working card.
I suspect it is a driver issue in that the Mac is wanting a driver for the card. No luck on finding a driver...
I went hunting through my old CDs, but no luck. I know I had the driver at one point when I was tinkering with an original Airport base station, but it may have been on one of my dead scsi drives.
From rusty memory, there were three manufacturers that slapped their labels on the same card: Orinoco, Wavelan and Farallon.
You may have luck if you can expand your search to those manufacturers (if you haven't already).
So I have not given up on this...
I took a modem card from my Newton and popped it into the Cardbus slot on the back of Connie and powered up - nothing. the System Profiler still does not see anything new and the system does not recognize that a card is installed. I downloaded Wish-I-were-a and set it to be the highest level powerbook I could and ran the OS 9.1 installer to get any laptop extensions I could.
Rebooting did not yield any changes in my results (for the modem or the WaveLAN). I am seriously thinking I need a different driver for the Cardbus but I just don't know.
