Appleworks freezing on print screen.

Hey I just recently picked up an apple iic and I don't have any prior experience with one I am a 1993 baby so it's all new to me so I'm just figuring everything out slowly  This is the first time I've done anything with a 5.25 floppy drive, I Remember using 3.5 floppy in school but it wasn't for very long.

Anyways I've got an nx 1000 printer with an apple grappler connector for my apple ii and I've had some luck in printing with it but it seems very hit and miss. I've been trying to print documents from appleworks and I've been successful before in printing but it seems more often than not when I execute the command to print  it will just freeze the computer and I have to reset everything, losing my work I've typed.

Like I said in completely new to the Apple ii and 8 bit computers as a whole so there's a good chance it's user error, but either way if anybody could maybe get me pointing in the right direction that would be awesome thankd

Printer status

I'm sure this is something you've checked, but I spent the better part of this morning trying to diagnose my Apple IIe unable to print to my ImageWriter II from AppleWorks 3.0 (locks after selecting the printer) to not actually hitting the "online" printer button.  For some stupid reason, turning on the Imagewriter doesnt actually put it into receive mode...I have to actually press the 'Select' button to put it back online... Otherwise when I try to print somethign it just locks up and does nothing....nothing at all requiring me to ctrl-OA-reset to get out of it..Until I realized pressing the "Select" button on the printer to put it "online" fixed it.  Who would think a printer freshly turned on wouldnt by defualt be in the online receiving mode.

Yay

Glad that was it for you too.  It drove me crazy for a half hour myself.  I keep forgetting some older software doesn't handle things like telling you the printer isn't online, so instead it just freezes up waiting forever, topped off by (in my case) a printer that doesnt automatically come up ready to print.  I'll remember it from now on though :-)
