Hiya Fritters,
I've got an AppleIIGS ROM 01 with 512K of total RAM via an original Apple RAM board (with 256K on it).
When I put the disk for the GS/OS 6.0.1 it attempts to load and then makes a "beep" sound about midway through the progress bar and then stops reading the drive and stays stuck at the fully-loaded bar. No icons appear at the lower left corner.
Is that "beep" sound telling me that I don't have enough RAM to run GS/OS?
Thanks everyone for your insights!

512k isn't near enough. Usually a full 1mb card is just enough for a bare bones GSOS. 4mb cards are really cheap nowadays.
Modern designed 4M and 8M cards should really ease the burden on the power supply too, because they normally only have 7-8 chips on them instead of a full size card full. Plus the newer chips draw very little juice comparitively.
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful replies! Just a couple additional thoughts:
- The "beep" sound does mean that there is insufficient RAM to load GS/OS? Just want to make sure that doesn't mean something else...
- Is this the RAM card I should get? (https://www.reactivemicro.com/product/4gs-ram-card-from-briel-computers-assembled-or-kit/#prettyPhoto[product-gallery]/3/) or should I find something that has 8MB? It seems to me that 4MB is enough for pretty much everything?
Thanks again!!

That card from ReActive Micro is perfectly adequate as is the GGLabs 4/8 MB card, which consumes even less power.
