Hello,
i have an apple IIe, first step was to repair the power supply, changing the AC input capacitor.
Now I want to enter the diagnostic screen and I get only garbage. Entering basic display although some garbage screens.
I have attached two screens.
How to start the error search?
I have:
Multimeter
Oscilloscope
Weldering tool
Thanks for the support.
hello,
have nobody an idea why my IIe only prints strange letters?
thanks
If the PSU is known to be good, I would be looking at the motherboard RAM next.
If you place your finger on the RAM chips while the system is running, do any of them feel hot? By hot, I don't mean warm, but rather uncomfortable to leave your finger there for more than a few seconds. If any do, they are probably dead and will need replacing. Unfortunately, the absence of heat does not guarantee the chips are good, so they may still need replacing. If none feel hot (shorted internally), you can try piggy-backing a new DRAM chip over each of the motherboard chips one at a time to try and isolate which chip(s) are bad. If you notice a change in behaviour, you've got a possbible culprit.
If in doubt, replace all the DRAM chips and install sockets on the motherboard in the process. Of course this assumes that you are fairly proficient with desoldering/soldering.
Cheers,
Mike
