Apple IIe Diagnostics Card 2018 version!!!
AttachmentSize
Image icon Screen Shot1.07 MB
Image icon Assembled Board. 1.9 MB

Well,

I soldered the prototype of the Apple IIe diagnostics together today with the parts I sourced and it works!!!!

I included a picture of the screen and the card.

I soldered Machined sockets on the card so I can use it as a test Jig. Also, I didn't solder the black ROM socket either.

I am going to put a few more of these together this weekend, but you will see them soon on Henry's RM page to buy.

WooHoo!!!

Thanks,
Jay

I added another board I made from another fabricator and it worked too!!!

As already mentioned, I'm interested to buy one board, too. Maybe with parts like the switch and the 21** ICs if feasible.

Many thanks for your great effort.

Thanks Everyone! I am having 5 assembled and 10 kits made for KFEST. Not sure of the price yet, but I will let you guys know once I run the numbers.

Not looking at making a killing, just want to recoup my costs.

BACK FROM KFEST - It was a blast!!!

Back from KansasFest and these boards were a hit.

I have one assembled board left and 2 kits left.

Asking $109.00 for the assembled board and $89.00 for the Kit

Both boards include a detailed assembly guide and a copy of the operational manual from the Apple Service Manual from 1983.

PM me if you want one. You can see what an assembled board looks like back in the first post. It will have a third ROM socket and have freshly burned Revision B ROMs.

As for selling just the boards and the hard to find parts (the switch and the 2112A RAM chips, I can possibly do this if I do another run. It will all depend on the demand.

Thanks,
Jay

2114A IC's

For those looking for 2114A IC's, see eBay Item # 152829423455 on sale for $1.20 each (12 for $10)
These appear to be Intel originals dated 1971. Great deal.

Also interested on bare boards...

Jay,

Good job on cloning the card. Please put me down for another bare board... If you are not planing to make another batch maybe you could publish the gerber files. Smile
I have hundreds of 2112s and the toggle switches, I could trade if you are interested...

Yes. I do too. Have to think what to sell a bare board for since , obviously, that was most of the cost of this whole project. PM me and we can discuss. Thanks. Jay.

An beautiful card, a great

An beautiful card, a great kit with excellent instructions. Jay is even so thoughtful that he includes a magic eraser in the kit.
Now I just need to find a machine with trouble so I can really diagnose something, all I know so far is that it pass both my working machines with flying colors.

Hi J,

Hi J,

I don't have the RAM chips yet... but if you have some spare it might be an option to get them from you, too.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Torsten,

Hi Torsten,

Reason I am asking is that they are tougher to get than the switches.   Last batch I ordered from eBay, I thought I was going to be retired before I received them.  :-)    They were coming from China and got stuck in the "system".   I didn't think I was ever going to get them.  I am afraid to order another batch, but I bought a bunch of them a few years ago. Let me see what I have.

I have been selling the "bare bones" kit on ebay which is the board, switch, 2 2112A chips, and the two ROMs for $30.00.  I could even burn you the German ROMS if you want.  I have one of those left on eBay, but I think I have enough boards to make one up for you.   What's you post code in Germany?

Apple IIe diagnostic card

Hello Sir,

I just joined this really great site and am looking for a Apple IIe diagnostic card. I see you offer one on ebay, which I can't seem to find. Would you be willing to send the link? Looking for the the "bare bones" kit which includes the board, switch, 2 2112A chips, and the two ROMs (US English).

Any help would be great!

Thank you in advance for your time and efforts,

hal9000 (Yes, I am a person and not the computer :) )

I am very intereted in this board.  Is it still available?  Ideally I'd like a couple of PCBs if possible.

They are still available in

They are still available in limited quantities on Ebay, but that above link fails.  I just completed my own kit i purchased and had it together in about an hour or so.

I did have a minor issue on first usage with the keyboard test which i think was a cold solder joint as the second time didn't have the same issue and now seems to be working 100%. I plan to go over the solder joints again with my higher Mag. viewers and just tweak up the solder content as the small hole size of the connections led me to use less solder than i tend to on vintage boards.  Here is my kit in operation.

I approve. That is a charming looking Rev A //e, and I am a big jealous that you have workspace on your workbench. Mine is so crammed full of tools and boards that it is like a jungle of wires and tools.

Just a heads up on the Diag
Just a heads up on the Diag Card. It started showing some issues, so Jay sent me a new set of ROMS to try out and they solved the issues.  Today before i installed them the card was showing some keyboard artifacts and the keyboard test was starting to act up again, now its rock solid. After that i went on a quick search for the ROMS themselves and of course being the open community it is, the ROMS were available to download.  I fired up the old TL866II and flashed 2 sets using some of my roms I purchased to make C64 cartridges of the upper and lower roms, tested and as you can see they work fine so now have backups. I used AMD AM27C64 EEPROMS.

Unicorns

I bought a bare board from an eBay seller a while ago.  I believe it was bought from someone else.  The card is blue, not green, and the PCB trace routings are slightly different.  There were no included parts.

I have a couple of suggestions if you are going to make more of these.

First is the switch.  It is a unicorn.  Maybe update the design for a modern equivalent.

Also, the 2112 SRAMs are also unicorns.  But 2114s are still plentiful, and the seller back then included  a pair of adapter boards (which were very finicky) so that I could use 2114 SRAMs on the card.  Maybe update the PCB to accomodate the 2114.  The two chips are pretty much the same except for their pinouts.

See pics attached, including the bodged switch and detail of the 2114 adapters.

Hi,

You are correct.  That seller was not me.  I bought one of his boards and they were okay.  I have a re-design all ready to go, but first I need to burn through the stock I have.

I have over 1,000 of the EATON red paddle switches and 700 of the 2112 SRAM chips that I need to burn through first. :-)  Once they are gone,  I will start making the new design.

THanks,

Jay

Wow, I'm impressed that you did your prep work for that card.  I couldn't find any of those Eaton switches anywhere, except a parts broker who wanted a 100 piece order minimum and then wanted $4.75 a piece.

Yeah.  I know.  It took a while to find them.  I had to order them from two different surplus places that had approx 500 each at  $2 per switch.   I figured they are rare so I better order every one they had because they are getting hard to find.   I am a purist and wanted to make the cards a replica of what they were.   I am working on a design of the card that uses SMT technology and a microcontroller for when I run out.  LOL!

I was never able to find one.   When I started making these cards,  I traced the card out and began to draw one for it.  Is there something specific you are looking for?

THanks,
