Hi
Can someone please recommend a mechnism I can download say Proterm3.1 and install on a floppy disk (5 1-4 inch)?
I am a Apple IIe newbie. I have a WiModem232, Super serial card, empty floppy disks, Apple IIe which I recently bought on ebay. The objective is to be able to say telnet into a BBS using my Apple IIe.
I was thinking the following might be possible options?
- (1) I was hoping there might be somewhere I can play a wav file into my computer and use that to burn a floppy disk. I've done this for a few other utilities.
- (2) I could download from http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/images/communications/proterm/ but don't know how to get this onto a floppy disk 5 1-4 inch?
- (3) Okay I just buy this floppy disk from somewhere?
Any thoughts or comments on a way forward are super appreciated.

Yes I do have a Super Serial. Can I use ADTPro for a telnet? Have you been able to do this?
What I was referring to was to use ADTPro to transfer and write the disk image. There are plenty of tutorials online so I won't waist space here. Basically your host computer (Mac, Windows, Linux) acts as a file server and an ADTPro disk (you can create this from a wave file) boots on your iie and will transfer and write the disk. Couple of hints, 1. Pay attention to what your Super Serial card dip switch settings are required for the cable you are using. 2. Make sure you don't over write your ADTPro disk LOL.

The problem I have is Proterm and all the software listed below complains that it NEEDS A 65C02 PROCESSOR TO RUN or REQUIRES 128k.
Do you know of any terminal emulators that run on simple Apple IIe 6502?

There are quite a few. Check on Asimov.
Modem MGR says it works on II+, so a non enhanced IIe should work as well. I tried it once, but found ProTerm to be a lot more user friendly. So I never messed with it again.

You should upgrade your Apple IIe to the enhanced version. You can buy an enhancement kit here:

Then ProTerm v3.1 will run properly. Barring that, you could likely get away with just swapping the 6502 to a 65C02 (also available from ReActive Micro). I think ProTerm is only looking for 128K and a 65C02, not the updated enhancement ROM, so if you have a reason to keep your IIe un-enhanced, then a simple CPU swap will do that.
Then I would encourage you to start connecting to some Apple II BBS systems.
