ADTPro - Audio and SSC issues

I have been trying to get ADTPro working now that I have a good working Floppy drive.

Both Audio connection and SSC connection has the same issue - garbage text after the first couple files listed when doing a remote directory.

I can send data fine,  I have even sent a copy of a disk back to the computer and ran it in AppleWin.  Using the DiskServer website, i can send disks via the audio connection.  Just not with ADTPro.

Terminal mode on the SSC Works, i can send data back and forth.  I can Boot strap no issue, just once it gets into the program i start getting garbage on the screen.

I have tried two different laptops, two different usb/serial adapters with different chipsets, linux, windows XP and Windows 10.  same isssues.

I am thinking it is something with the Apple itself now, but can't begin to guess what would be common between the audio and the SSC connections.

Did you do a RAM test of the machine? Can you run other "complex" programs which use a lot of RAM, without having issues?

Also, double check your ADTpro floppy disk. Maybe create a new one using original data.

That would be the (most) obvious causes for common issues between a serial and sound connection...

RAM tested fine last month, but maybe something to retest.  Lode Runner plays.  Copy II Disk works.  I will run a ram test again.

RAM Tests fine according to apple-cillin.  Ran multiple loops for about 1/2 hour.  I am thinking about setting up a simple loop back program with the PC, but hopping there exists something out there that can test the SSC card.  That still won't explain the same issues i see with the audio connection.  I boot strapped a ADTPro client to the apple and had the same results thinking maybe something with the DISK II still, but that ruled that out....

update

After not getting any further with the existing system, I acquired another Apple II Plus in pretty rough shape.  Spent the day cleaning it, disasmbling the keyboard, replacing some broken key pegs and it boots.  Put the SSC and DISK II card from the other machine in and boot up ADTPro.  Now when i do a directory, all the standard text is good.  when you scroll up/down in the directory listing, the flashing/inverse entry is garbled.  Move off it an its fine again.  Both Audio and Serial have the same results - so now it is looking like a ADTPro disk issue.

Run a quick basic program to test the inverse and flashing characters and no issue in basic.

The only difference here is the 16k card.  This machine uses one without the ribon to the motherboard.

The good thing is

The good thing is: if it's indeed a bad disk, you probably now have two good Apple IIs. That's a pretty good start for a collection! :-)

I've noticed the screen gets garbled when I am in a directory with long file names, names with spaces, or names with lower case and other special characters.

If you rename them to simpler file names ADTPro seems much happier...

This is normal.  The wonky inverse characters is becasue the II+ cannot display lower case inverse, even if you have a lower case chip.

If all your disk images were in capital letters instead of mixed case it would display fine.
