Can any one tell me if I can swap the CPUs in these computers?I need the ADC port in the 400 but dont want to go backwards speed wise.

If the ADC is what you need, wouldn't it be easier to swap video cards? Just a thought.
We would need more information about which model you have, since there were two models that had those speeds, which don't have swappable processors. Check the audio in/out ports on the back- if they have the same alignment(both verticle or both horizontal), they would be compatible. If the alignment is different (one vertical, one horizontal), not compatible.
I just bought a 17" studio CRT (which is a realy nice thing)and being a CRT it never crossed my mind that it would have an ADC plug on it.And my 450 dont have one.(Sound ports are vert).
So I've got a 400mh AGP gigabit eth model on the way with ADC.
It's not here yet so I havent seen inside it but I notice some ADC ports dont seem to be on the video card!
In short, I want to keep the CRT.What can I plug this thing into.I've spent $2000 in the last week and I've got a wife as well, most understanding she is, but for how long ...
PS .I'm making the leap from Performa's to G4's and I only got my first computer 2 years ago so I've got a lot to learn yet.
Thanks for your help.

Your 450Mhz computer is a "Sawtooth". So, yeah, swapping video cards wouldn't do you any good.
(And I don't know *where* you might of seen ADC ports that wern't on the video card. Anyway.)
I *believe*, but don't quote me on this, that the CPU modules are electrically compatable between Sawtooth and GigE. However there may mechanical issues with component placement and the heat sinks.
Frankly, I wouldn't bother swapping even if it would fit. You'll never notice 50Mhz. (In normal use I can't tell the difference between 667Mhz and 1Ghz Titanium Powerbooks, tell the truth.) It's not worth risking the damage to the CPU in my opinion.

Ok, I must retract something- swapping video cards will not work, as your current model (sometimes referred to as a "sawtooth" model) will not support an ADC port, so putting an ADC video card in it wouldn't work. I'm surprised no one else here caught me on that!
The gigabit ethernet model does support ADC. You should be able to swap processors, and sell the sawtooth to recoup your expenses.
In my opinion, seems like a lot of trouble just for a monitor, though.
edit: Eudi beat my post by a few seconds- what he said. I don't *think* there would be any issues swapping processors, but like he said, I'm not sure it's worth it.
Score! ;^>
Anyway. The other thing I will mention is, well... you might want to reconsider how attached you are to that 17" CRT. They are "orphans" in every meaning of the word (being the *only* non-digital non-LCD ADC monitor Apple ever made), and no matter how nice they might be spending any money just to use one is a really questionable investment.
(A hypothetical "what if?": What if you find that the ADC video card in your new GigE is an anemic Rage 128? Replacement AGP video cards with ADC ports are often more expensive and are definately harder to find then ones without.)
You might want to read this thread, regarding the agony several people have gone through trying to get those monitors to work with ADC adapters.

You can get a *really* nice (20") CRT monitor for around $200 these days. Something to keep in mind.

The 450 from a Sawtooth AGP model G4 will plug right into a Gigabit G4 without any problems or PLL changes. Just swap them, and hit the cuda switch.
I couldnt find much spec wize that separated them (both 100mh bus)but something has to be different because a PCI slot can't power up the tube.
Soon as it turns up I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks people, your've been a great help
Sawtooth to Gigabit Ethernet differences are:
Ethernet controllers
Power Supplies
Power Supply Board connector
AGP Slot has provision for ADC complient video card
Those are the main differences that pop up off the top of my head. They are two entirerly different boards, not just slightly modded from one to the next.
