VidHD Power Requirements

As the title says, what are the power requirements for the VidHD card? Is it designed to work with a stock IIgs power supply (and extra RAM and Microdrive Turbo), or is it something that should be/can be powered sepaately or used with an upgraded power supply?

VidHD draws 310 mA from the 5V supply. It will work fine in a IIgs with a stock power supply as long as the PSU is not weak/failing, and the other cards do not draw too much power.

For comparison:

CFFA 3000 = 525 mA

RamFast SCSI = 425 mA

Apple recommends that all slot cards combined should draw less than 500 mA from 5V, but many users report that their stock PSUs can go beyond that without the system crashing.

I have a Universal Power Supply from ReActive Micro and as a general rule recommend upgrading the PSU since if it fails, it can damage your motherboard and slot cards.

BTW: When the MicroDrive Turbo firmware has DMA mode enabled, it conflicts with VidHD, so I recommend using the MDT setup utility to disable DMA on the MicroDrive Turbo.

Thanks JB, I plan on adding

Thanks JB, I plan on adding the upgraded PS, just keep spending money on the flashy adds :)

Can you expand on the conflict between MDT and VHD though? I have the DMA enabled and have not seen any issues. Is it something more disk-corruption related that I won't see until it's too late, or something obvious?
