So this is almost certainly a no, but is there a program similar to ADTPro that would provide the same service for the classic Macintosh? Basically, I'm wondering if there is a program that will let me bootstrap a Macintosh Plus, or similar older Mac from a modern MacBook (via serial cables, or local talk), or one that would allow me to move disk images, and files with a minimum of additional hardware?
At present, I'm using two separate PowerBooks, a flash drive, and a USB Floppy to move files: A G3 Pismo to move files from the Flash Drive to 1.44MB Floppy, and then a 180 to get them onto 800k. The setup is awkward, the process is time-consuming, and the G3 doesn't play well with my internet, So I was wondering if there was a more efficient way of doing this.
Also I tried plugging in my USB floppy directly into my MacBooks, and while it would read 1.44MB floppies, it wouldn't write to them, and it doesn't recognize 800k mac format at all.
Any Ideas?
A minor amendment: Is it possible to use ADTPro on an Apple II to write Macintosh disks?
You want MacADT.
I believe so, but I've never tried it. You should try it and see.
My initial results with ADTPro: I've tried writing three images so far, ShufflePuck.dsk (800k), Frogger.dsk (400k), and SimCity.image (800k).
The first two (both .dsk files) failed, coming to sudden stop while receiving the file (from what I can tell, the mac simply stopped sending them). Shufflepuck about half way through (I made 3 attempts, once formatted by the //e), and Frogger almost immediately.
The third, SimCity (.image) worked! The disk was formatted using my Mac SE, then written by the //e. The game loaded without a problem, although the constant honking, helicopters, and sirens did get on my nerves.
Further testing seems warranted, and I'm curious if anyone else can replicate my results. As for me, the next logical step is to see if I can write a boot disk for my Mac Plus, since SimCity was just a program.
Update: I just successfully booted System 1.0 on my Mac Plus (written from a .img file) on a 400k formatted disk.
I'm still having issues with .dsk files, which is odd, since that's normally how Apple II disks are archived, but for some reason, ADTPro doesn't like them for Macintosh disks.
My guess here is that the Macintosh .DSK files are DiskCopy Images and they are in a different format than the ADT .DSK files.
Any idea on how to convert them?
