Hi again,
I still a newbe for Apple II's. leaning as I go.
I got an Apple II (not plus or e) that shows ? and @ full screen and a blinking cursor at the bottom. There is no applesoft card. Is this 'normal' boot behavior? I get the same with and without the extra cards installed. One card looks like an extra 16K card. It plugs into one of the ram sockets. The other is a Mountain RomPlus card with only one ROM installed. Not shown

The Apple IIe just shows green cursor high green bars. I am sure it is not supposed to do that. I have reseated all the socketed IC's. Pressing Reset dose nothing. There is no beep on power up. It dose the same with and without the cards installed.

Suggestions, Links, websites?
Many thanks!

That is normal behavior for a II with just the Integer ROMs and no Autoboot (F8) ROM, but the photo shows 6 ROMs installed, so it looks like AppleSoft BASIC, so that is odd. Look up the part numbers on the ROMs to see what you have. If it's Integer ROMs, you can press CTRL-B then return and you should get a ">" Integer BASIC prompt. If not, the machine has problems you'll need to fix.

The IIe is broken, you'll have to troubleshoot that.

Some people liked having the original non autostart ROM for software cracking. Try what rittwage suggested and see if you get a prompt

Ctrl-B works on the AII !!!

Ctrl-B works on the AII !!! Thanks. I get into Int Basic and ran a little program. I get a ] not an >. What dose this mean?
The ROM IC's are left to right. C48037,42,41,40,39,38. Are these the correct IC's, and in the right order?
How would you describe this AII version?
The ROM on the Mountain ROMPLUS card is C28815M, IDC2316-01. Any idea what that is?
A few of the keys do not work well. I used some electronics contact cleaner and it helped 2 keys work better, but not always. Suggestions on easy fixes?

About the IIe. How to go about testing it?
Also, where to source a white power light cover?

Many, many thanks everyone!!!!
