I don't believe you need Quic

I don't believe you need QuickTime to play MP3 files. Quicktime is slow. MPEGDec, SoundApp and others can play MP3's without QuickTime as far as I know, because they have thier own decompressors.

I don't know about Mpegdec, b

I don't know about Mpegdec, but I know that without Quicktime, you can't use soundapp. I doesn't have it's own decoders, it relies on Quicktime's. And QT 3 can't do Mp3 anyway, I QT 4 was the first version to implement it if my memory serves me correctly.

QT / 7200 /MP3s

If you're running OS 8.6 on that 7200, why don't you use iTunes? There's an 8.6 hack for getting iTunes on your machine.

quicktime 3.0

well, i have quicktime 2.5, but the program i am hoping to run if i don't end up just going with soundapp, requires quicktime 3.0 or higher to play mp3s. also, i don't have money to get OS 8 at this time. also, wanted to let everyone know that i got my PowerMac 7200/90 for free with a 17 inch moniter, etc. i do thank everyone for their help, but still looking. hoping to try soundapp today, after i replug in my PowerMac.

MPEG Player is a good match f

MPEG Player is a good match for underperformin PPC machines:

I used it on my PowerBook 5300c, and it worked fine.
