I remember about a year ago one of AF member's had his modded and maxed-out Pismo stolen out of his car. I can't remember the exact details, but a blue paint job and 900Mhz proc. seemed to ring a bell. Anyway, here's the link, if anyone remembers the username of the person who reported it stolen please post it and we should all try to contact him to see what he thinks.

I know I shouldn't triple post, but I'm so anxious about this. I know it's the same powerbook! DanielUK made this post about it being stolen on the old fora:
The identical HD brand, the partitions, the UK plug on the adapter, the "techno" keyboard mention, the Airport card, the carrying case! It all fits!
Does anyone else agree that they think the Pismo in the auction and the Pismo danieluk modded are one and the same? (Just for some reassurance for me, I feel like I'm going crazy here).
BTW- I have emailed daniel at the email address listed in his old profile (hopefully it hasn't changed) and also added his AOL screenname to my buddy list in case he hops online.
Perhaps the biggest question I have is, why is the seller in Louisiana? The PowerBook was stolen in the UK. It sure does seem to be the same PB to me (expecially since the auction specifically states that the power adapter has a UK plug), but I'm curious how the 'Book made the leap across the pond.
I found that to be the only fishy part, but it isn't unlikely that the powerbook was sold once from the UK to the US without anyone noticing, or perhaps the person who stole it had a contact in the US and wanted to sell it here to try keep it from being discovered.
Just a side note, I went to his .mac homepage and found that he has a new email address, I've emailed him there as well.
Seller had 3 'Books up at once, cancelled all three within minutes of each other, very odd indeed! That 17" with the unbelievable price of only $1200 would have been snapped up PDQ if it hadn't! Agreed, it all smells pretty damn fishy.
Anyone able to access danieluk's old images? I wasn't able to find anything I could get at.

Hi Guys,
First off, thanks to -Wallstreet- for emailing me and bringing this to my attention. Right, best start from the beginning...! I did have my Pismo stolen, but it was recovered in January of this year. I perhaps should have followed up all the postings I'd made regarding the theft (I do have the relevant crime number if proof is needed!). Then after I'd cleaned it up and replaced the damaged screen I proceeded to list it on eBay (couple of months ago). However it didn't sell (after listing it twice - anyone give me any offers?!). In the listing I included all info regarding it being stolen and recovered. The link you have discovered is a trimmed down version of the original listing I made and I will be contacting eBay immediately to see what action they can take against this user. My eBay user ID is dan-uk. The posting on macteens is indeed me, and you may find other postings on several Mac forums regarding the genuine auction that I had listed. I'd recommend staying well away from 'clarksable' - hopefully the info I send to eBay will be enough to get him/her banned.

After waking up this morning and re-reading my posts along with the new ones, I realized that I went a little crazy last night! I was panicking as if it were my own powerbook! Sorry I overreacted, but nevertheless I am happy to hear that dan's powerbook was recovered.
...it is a good feeling to know that there is a group that looks out for its own members and acts quickly in their best interest.

I was impressed by the whole story.
Wow...if this happened in the pc world it would be all over the news by now.
How so?
A computer was stolen. It was then recovered. The owner then attempted to sell it.
Because we were aware of the theft, but not of the recovery, a member of a community attempted to find out what was happening. If it had not been recovered, then his efforts would most likely have made some sort of splash somewhere. However, instead of losing his cool, he contacted the original owner, and found out about the recovery.
Because of this, we know that the computer was recovered.
I would have found it much more 'newsworthy' (A polite term for sensational) if the item had not been recovered, and this was used to track down the thief. Or if our members had not contacted the original owner and had simply overreacted, possibly reporting this to the relevant people. Both of these would be much more interesting than someone trying to sell something that was recovered after it was stolen.
Still, interesting none the less. This story does deserve to be told, in the sense that it's a remarkable example of how a community bands together and helps eachother out. That, to me, is the remarkable event.
PC or Mac however, this does not qualify as newsworthy. Unless you're finding better sources than I am.

Close. What happened is that danieluk did recover his Pismo and had tried twice to sell it on eBay, both times unsuccessfully. The auctioon I found, which has now been removed from eBay's system, used the same exact picutres and chopped up description as danieluk had used in his auctions, but the seller was not daniel. So even though it wasn't quite what I had expected, there was still something illegal going on.
I stand corrected. Thank you for clarifying.
