New Apple II haul....

Hello All,

I have been silent on the board for a while because I was disgusted with all the high prices that people are asking for Apple II hardware.

Well I ran across and gentlemen in my area who was an avid Apple II fan back in the day who had a whole bunch of collectible stuff.

I went back and forth a few times on price and finally obtained most of his collection.

Here is a box link to the stuff I got. I just sorted it last weekend, but haven't looked that closely at it. I am going to try to do that this weekend.

There are a few puzzling things, like the Apple II motherboard doesn't have a serial number or date code on it. The chips are all from 1978 1979 so they seem to be authentic.

Maybe this is a service part?

Here's the link to all the pictures.

Hopefully, I got my moneys worth out of it. My wife said if I want to keep all this stuff, I will need to thin out my collection so I am going to put some stuff up on eBay to think it out. I guess now is the best time to do that with the prices everyone seems to be asking.

Thanks,
Jay

RE: putting stuff on eBay...

Might be an interesting experiment to start some/all of your offers at $1.00 and see how high the bidding goes. Blum 3

I checked out your photos. (all) Quite a collection. Worthy of a considerable Apple ][ start by itself.
You have a couple of hard to get EProm programmer cards in there. The PromGrammer is considered
among the best of the best, second in line to the Hollister Microsystems EProm programmer card IMHO.
You can actually program a 27512 (64K x Dirol Eprom with that card on an Apple ][, but it takes 2 passes to do.
The Needham AEProm card is also a good card but the adjustment pots would make me a little nervous
to use without checking the voltage calibration on it first. Likely is fine, but 25 years later ...
Those, coupled with the ROM cards gives you a lot of fun options.
I also notice a few other rare pieces of hardware and software in there as well. Good buy. I hope you got
it all at a good price. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the info. That's the thing I love about this group. The sharing of information that happens. Smile

The price was higher than I wanted to pay, but I couldn't let this one go.

Yes. I might just do that with some of the Apple IIe units I need to sell. $1 to start and see where they end up.

Thanks,
Jay

Wow, that is a huge haul!

The few times I've run into stuff like that it is one of two scenario's- either it's all free, or they want a fortune. Once in a great while it will start out the latter and turn into the former some months later, once they find out there is virtually nobody that will come and pick it up from them- let alone pay their high price. Smile

I just had two turn up this weekend, a IIgs and a II+ setup- both were very high amounts on Craigslist a couple months ago. I offered a reasonable price, they refused for the usual reasons (someone told them it was worth a fortune). After a while, they end up taking the deal...

Here is a fun article I wrote a couple years ago about this very subject:

Yes, seeing Apple II items for free on Craigslist makes me cringe. There is a small but very active group of people who will pick up anything for free on CR. I have visions of people destroying rare Apple II items for scrap, it haunts my nightmares.

I love that article. I was laughing my butt off. You hit the nail squarely on the head.

Saw your listings on eBay. Blum 3 At first I was like "Who is this yoyo??!!"

Hopefully those IIe computers will go to persons new or returning to our fun hobby.

Yep. That Yoyo was me. Smile

I really need to cut down on the collection a bit and I picked these as the first to go.

So far everyone that has purchased one, I have offered to help them get software pointed them to your book and have shown them where to get the good A2 resources. I hate to let these go, but I literally am tripping over stuff in my room in the basement and if I don't clear them out, I am going to fall and kill myself. Smile

I am hoping these are priced okay. They seem to be going like hotcakes so if they get someone else interested in the hobby, I think it is well worth the price.

I do hate to let them go though, I was kinda hoping they didn't sell and then I could at least tell my wife I tried. LOL!

But this time of year, no such luck. There are three more set to go tonight when the auction ends.

Oh well.

Jay

Hi Jay, any chance I could buy just the IIe keyboard unless you have a non-working (which you don't list) but visually/ cosmetically-complete one from you? Thanks, Wilson (ship to Oregon).

That looks like a decent load. Not all that different from what I have in my collection. In fact I think I only see 4 things I don't have.

My collection has also sprawled out and is taking too much space as it is. More and more I keep wanting to return to the material I had when I was a kid, and just that. NOT!
