GBS-8200 converter

My GBS-8200 converter arrived. As a test to see if it was functioning, I tried the output from my GS2HD. That worked well.
Then I tried to get it to work with the output from the IIgs RGB port.
I connected everything up the way I thought it should go and got a sort of blurry streaky pic. Brain churned for a few secs when I thought maybe I should try hooking up the ground wire. Picture turned sharp instantly. I'd been thinking of the IIgs ground as shielding but I guess not;

Next the IIe. I tried the output from the AE RGB card on a Ramworks. Readable but not as clear as I'd like. Played with the settings on the converter. That helped quite a bit.

Since I had a IIe handy with a Multiram RGB, I gave it a try. It worked well with the converter.

This is how I wired mine up...

DB15 -> VGA
2 -> 1 (Red Analog)
5 -> 2 (Green Analog)
9 -> 3 (Blue Analog)
1 -> 6 (Blue Ground)
7 -> 7 (Green Ground)
13 -> 8 (Blue Ground)
3 -> 13 (Composite Sync)

Re: GBS-8200 converter

I didn’t use the VGA connector but the one marked RGBS input so I used

DB15 -> RGBS
2 -> Red
5 -> Green
9 -> Blue
3 -> HS
System ground -> ground

Re: GBS-8200 converter

I can't remember if RGBS is labeled as P11 or not, but I think it is. I also used the P11 input with good results.

DB15 -> P11 input (GBS-82x0)
2 -> Red (Red Input)
3 -> Gray (Composite Sync)
5 -> Green (Green Input)
13 -> Black (Blue Ground which acts as a common ground to Red/Green/Blue)
9 -> Blue (Blue Input)
Yellow is not needed on the P11 input

Re: GBS-8200 converter

I decided to try the VGA connector. Since I didn’t feel like cutting up more cables, I thought I’d try some of the Mac VGA adapters. Got one of those chrome unimac adapters to work. Had the switches set to 640x480 at 66hz. Strangely the 60hz setting didn’t work. Adapter also worked on the IIe RGB cards.
