Another New Toy: 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

I was out at the local auto auction, looking for odd and interesting vehicles and a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Police car came thru. I bid on it and won it for $1700 It used to be a michigan state police car. Still had the cage in it along with the lights and sirens, the only thing that was missing was the police radio and laptop and some other goodies. Well I started driving it home title in hand, Got up on the freeway kicked her down to about 90 and then a real michigan state boy got behind me and just as he hit his lights i accidentally bumped the switch to turn on the sirens and lights. I thought i was screwed. The Officer approached the vehicle. Asked for Proof of insurance and registration, I handed him the title and and he went back to the car ran my license and plate, of course i had improper plates on it. He came back and I was like officer i am just transporting this vehicle from point of purchase to my home. Hes like whats with the lights and sirens i could arrest you. He wrote me a Failure To Transfer Registration Ticket, No Proof Of Insurance... Improper Plates and defective equipment, and of course i was going 20 over so the total cost ended up being somewhere around teh ballpark of 700 bucks. Just a lesson to all you young ones there. Keep your vehicles legal especially in michigan, Fines suck, I got really lucky i didnt get arrested for no insurance, improper plates and impersonating a police officer. Just thought id share that little tidbit of a story Oh BTW Those 4.6L Engines in the crown victoria goes like hell, you hit the gas and ure thrown back into your seat. The cage will be great for when im the DD hauling drunk buddies home from the bar. and another thing is the Color... Its state police blue. and those of you from michigan know that you see a car that color you slow down. so people will move outta the way for me since its state police blue

Check under the hood and see if they left the Police Interceptor mod chip plugged into the engine computer. If they DID leave it in... :o

Is that ridiculous MI State Police "STOP!" sign still on the hood? I always thought Michigans patrol cars looked stupid with that big single light on top. But you're right about the color. I no longer live in Michigan but I still freak when I see a big blue car behind me.

car

Nope i ripped that off, im most likely gonna just disconnect the light but leave it for the freak out factor. I went and got it plated and insured this morning and drove it out to my parents, my dad thought the cops were at the house and started yelling and screaming. A good way to freak your friends out with it is to drive by really slow with the spotlight on there house they will wonder what is going on

Re: Another New Toy

So your $1700 Crown Vic ended up costing you $2400! Too bad/funny! Blum 3

I just sold my 1988 Crown Vic; much the same vehicle as yours but with not-so-smooth body lines. It had the 5.0L V8 in it, and was a moving machine, but a real sleeper. Not much off the line, but once you're up to speed there was no stopping it. Funny thing is that as fast as I drove that thing I never got cited for speeding. And as big as the thing was, it handled like a much smaller car. Gas mileage was a little pathetic around town; only about 14. But on the highway I could count on getting 20-25.

Did you ever find out if the chip is still in the computer? That chip unlocks alot of horsepower that can make a ride alot of fun. You should take the car to your local drag strip and see what times you get.

You're the forgotten Blues Brother!

Just for laughs, check out this site...http://www.copcar.com/

In Chicago, there's a car dealer on Grand Ave. just west of Western Ave. called Asia Motors -- "Home of the Used Police Car." Crown Vics and Caprices, many still in two-tone paint, most with working alley lights. The drawback of a municipal police car is the multiple drivers, high-mileage, low-speed, stop-and-go wear-and-tear on the vehicle. You'll also never know what kind of collision damage it may have sustained.

On the other hand, your vehicle might have been assigned to only one officer who likely put mostly highway miles on it! AND kept it well maintained.

I have that same 4.6L engine in a 97 Mustang. 75k miles and still going strong. Had the 5.0L in an 89 Mustang and ran it for 160k miles. This appears to be Ford's most enduring engine line.

Pictures please!

Whee :)

I have a few friends who are total Interceptor nerds, one of them traded his in recently tho. They're good cars. 150 MPH is a little hard to believe by the way. Even the Interceptor chip limited 1998 CVPI's to 129 MPH, and the pre-1998 ones to 137. Without going to a different aftermarket chip, there's no way to push one beyond those speeds without something like...rolling down an 80 degree slope with a backwind.

Not to completely ruin the fun here, but have you stopped to consider what you're describing in this thread may conflict with the sort of person you should be trying to be based on your "I'm going to be a daddy" thread?

Ah i'll keep this tihng around for when the kids are born BTW Twins now. oh joyus day... Great car though, best one i have owned, i mean going from an 87 Olds Toronado to a Crownvic is a big step. i should repaint it but the state police blue looks good, and it looks good next to my fully restored bronco

Yeah. The DPD has had some problems relating to this, not the least of which is that a CrownVic which cought flame in a test turned out to have had a crowbar welded to the gas tank in such a manner to cause the tank to explode when rear-ended.

As to RavenD: That siren will be pretty useful when you're taking the SO to the hospital to deliver.

A local State Trooper here was killed a year or two ago in one of those kinds of accident. It apparently makes a very big difference on what is in the trunk and how it is arranged. My suggestion is to eithyer be very careful about how objects are placed in the trunk, and maybe also putting in a sheet or tow of heavy guage steel at the forward side of the trunk for extra shielding.

You're a Jackass

You, sir, are a complete and unrelenting jackass. Do you really try that hard to be that stupid, or does it just come to you naturally? Your far-fetched tales of impersonating a police officer are lame, at best. The fact that you would do even half of what you described fully illustrates your lack of common sense, respect, and just plain smarts. You have no right to remotely resemble or imitate a police officer, regardless of 'how scared your dad was'. You are the sole reason why innocent, law abiding citizens with genuine interest in these cars are profiled and harrassed by the police. (the real police, that is)

Do us all a favor and drive your car 150 mph off a bridge. Be sure to turn on your real police lights so the divers can locate your body.

Moron. ::)
