cnnx,
First of all...WELCOME!!!
On the subject of a "Brand New, Never Used, In the Sealed Box" Apple IIc
the last one like that went about five or six years ago for $2600.00.
I have yet to see another like it and I am up on eBay all the time.
I wish you good hunting.
Has anyone else heard of one lately?
Steven
Your wish may be granted...

I just asked the seller for more pictures of the sealed box.

looks nice.. i think he was trying to sell the same one for 5k a few months back
An Apple IIc (first rom) just sold on ebay... brand new. Box was open, but I don't believe its ever been taken out of the bag. I was following it, but didn't get the final price... I believe it was far under a grand.
What on earth you need a new one for? For use and functionality a nicely used unit will do just fine, and cost a LOT less. I am a frugal kinda guy, but I would trade my Rom 255 for the first model.

Could have been This One
Or This One
(Actually the first two were IIc Plus machines)
Or This One
Maybe This One

Your a show off... lol! I was going to go back thru the searches... but wasn't compelled enough! That last one for $550 bucks I think was a good deal... compared with original prices and inflation... its about 90% off.
why a new one? are you kidding me? it was my first computer at 11 given to me at xmas by my parents, it has sentimental value
cnnx, I understand your desire for a new one. I think the real point was at such a high cost for a new one, you could get a good, clean, working machine for much less.
Some people just want a machine that works, others want one that works but is like new, and still others want it like they had when they were young, the whole "fresh out of the box" experience.
To each his own! Best of luck finding the machine you want. As you can see from my previous post,
new or at least in the box machines come up from time to time (I sold one not new but complete in the box just a few months ago)
so you never know, you might find what you are looking for at a price that is acceptable to you.
As I see ones come up still new in the box I will post them here.

A really sentimental person would try to track down the same serial number... good luck with that one. In this case, a new one in the box would be cheaper! It was my first computer too, and I am having a blast (and too much time) programming it. I don't even use commercial software... 98% of it is my own creation!
Hope you find it, and doesn't cost a lost... $500 probley wouldn't be too bad.

where would I buy one for 500$ ? and what condition would it be in?
If you read the above... you will find that many regular IIc models come up on ebay from time to time... and they do sell for apx $500, new in box! A regular used one can go anywhere from $40 to 150... a nice clean working one shouldn't cost more than 100... some people think that's too much, but I think $100 is perfect provided it works 100%. If you want to buy a new one, economically it doesn't make sense, but having the box/Styrofoam/manuals and cards is cool!
I sold an almost pristine Retrobrited and fully working //c ROM3 with original box but no manuals or disks, for $500 a couple of months ago.
Frankly I would prefer a cleaned, full system including monitor, base, external floppy and joystick for less than that.
Above $500 I only would pay for one with a memory card included or a Zip Chip.
You guys need to look at the last few entries into the "This Is Laughable" thread.
We have been discussing the Apple IIc dilemma quite profusely.

And having said that, I just picked this up from Steve Buggie:

Nice ROM 4 unit.
I also was able to acquire a IIc Plus for the amazing price of $125.00.
