Timbuktu-ing from my modern MacBook Pro to a System 6 box

I just found out something quite pleasantly nice. My copy of Timbuktu 8.8.4 on my current main axe, the MacBook Pro, can directly connect with and control my 7100 running System 7.6 and equipped with TImbuktu 3.0, which I just acquired from eBay (the TB2 3.0, not the 7100).

I wasn't expecting to be able to do that; the compatibility matrix guide I snagged awhile back seemed to indicate that no version of TB2 later than 5.2.4 would be able to connect to something as old as version 3, which would mean daisy-chaining, with a version 5 of Timbuktu in between.

The real nice part here is that I'm setting up a System 6 machine, either an LC or a IIci, and of course I will want to remote into it. The entire reason for the purchase of Timbuktu 3 was to serve as a "bridge computer" between System 6 and Timbuktu 1.0.x (which I have, already) and my MacBook Pro. Having one machine in-between is going to be quite tolerable; I was worried about having to daisy-chain from MacBook Pro to a MacOS 8.6 box running TB 5.0 to the System 7 box running TB 3.0 to the System 6 box running TB 1.0... I may even luck out and find that I can connect to the 6 box DIRECTLY, since obviously their documentation on the limitations is just plain wrong.

Got the LC online and installed Timbuktu. I can remote in from Timbuktu versions as recent as ver 6 running on OSX 10.3. In this shot I'm daisy-chaining from my current MacBook Pro to a 7100 running system 7.6 and from there to the LC running 6.0.8

Works good for viewing, not so good for controlling. Mouse clicks, keystrokes, etc aren't being transmitted properly.

Re: Timbuktu-ing from my modern MacBook Pro to a System 6 box

I have both System 7 and System 6 on that LC. Under System 7 I have installed Timbuktu Pro 3.0 and when I remote into it when it is running Sys 7 / TB 3, it is responsive and usable. Under System 6 / TB 1.0.5, it connects but it is painfully slow. It does eventually respond very very sluggishly.

Anyone have ancient Timbuktu experience? The product would not have been sold (or would have been pilloried as uselessly slow) if it had performed this badly back when TB Pro 1.0.5 was new.

* bump *

The specific questions are:

1) Does anyone in here know whether Timbuktu Pro 1.0.7 was sold specifically in a box containing that version, or was it only sold as 1.0.5 and people downloaded updates to get it from 1.0.5 to 1.0.7? The date on my 1.0.5 box says June 1994. Certainly some of us were online at least in the sense of going to Compuserv "ZIFFNET" area or the AOL equivalent, or getting the update & download information from Info-Mac Digest and downloading it via FTP. But updates via download only weren't exactly ubiquitous in 1994.

2) Got any idea where I can snag a copy of Timbuktu Pro 1.0.7? I see copies of Timbuktu Pro 1.0.5 all over the place.
