Are you going to Open It??? I have been following that auction for the last 3 days... I would have bid on it, if it was $130.00 or less at the end of the auction.
IIRC, I paid $79.00 for Merlin Pro for the 128K ][e or //c in 1985 or 1986.. Not Including Assembly Lines: The Book.. It was like $19.95. ( see photo ) I had the Pirated Copy of Big Mac and the early Merlin, but I really wanted to Own the Tool..
If I won it, I would have opened it and read it from Front to Back... And added the Disk to my Disk Collection... Just like 1985-1986, all over again....

Nope, I don't have money to burn, but I have been waiting for a
complete set of Merlin (Book and Software) for a long time.
I decided to go for it.
I will not keep it sealed.
I want to get "Home Use" copies of the disk made and
then make sure that fresh .dsk images somehow get up on Asimov
so that everyone can get to it.
At least that's the plan.

What's wrong with the current Merlin images?
Nothing that I know of.

I don't care. Last time I programmed 6502 machine language was when I was 12 on an apple clones, of course. Later on I moved to x86 asm (and PC dos.) It was great compared to 6502. But today I am reversing some a2 stuff, so there is need to recall and even learn some things
I was surprised to see a Merlin 8/16 manual on eBay, but it sold for a lot more than I would have paid for it.
I also wonder if the documentation is older or newer than the one that is already floating out there. I didn't know others were on the lookout for the manual.
Oh, there is a Merlin 8 version 2.59 disk image out there. 2.58 was the last "official" release I believe. The source code comes on a ProDos 3.5 disk though along with the Merlin binaries.

Congratulations on winning the auction! Glad you are planning to use the assembler/book. I learned 6502 assembly language using the Merlin Assembler. It is a nice piece of software.

So, I don't know much about Merlin after the version I bought..
I understand the Merlin 8 and Merlin 16 Assemblers are Full Screen Editors. Did your Auction have Both 8 Bit and 16 Bit versions of the Assembler. Is there a DOS 3.3 version , or only ProDOS 8 and or ProDOS 16. or is there a GS OS version??

Yes! It is all three. DOS 3.3, ProDos 8, and ProDos 16.
DOS 3.3 on Side 1 and ProDos 8/16 on Side 2.
This is supposed to be for the II Plus through IIgs models.
(Updated) There are both 5.25 and 3.5 inch disks in the set.

An Update:
In all actuality it is the following:
1. 5.25 inch Merlin 8 Disk DOS 3.3 Version 2.47
2. 5.25 inch Merlin 8 Disk ProDOS Version 2.57
3. 3.5 inch Merlin 16 Disk DOS 3.3/ProDOS Version Unknown for IIgs
(I don't have my IIgs and 3.5 inch drive hooked up right now.)
So that's the skinny.

I don't suppose I might prevail on you to create disk images for Merlin 816 and upload them since it is just about impossible to find the disk images for this specific version of the Merlin assembler. I did find one somewhere earlier this year but it has a bad block ( number 360?) that the ProSel 16 Volume repair flagged as bad.
Whatever you decide, please respond one way or the other. It would be a nice thing to do to continue to support this platform as it is a great one on which to learn about computing fundamentals.
