Hello,

I'm a young Apple II enthusiast and I came across a Boxed Apple II AppleTalk II interface card A2B2080. I cannot find any information online and I'm wondering about the rarity. It's similar to the Workstation card except it will work on the II II plus and the IIe. It has a 65C02 CPU Rom and RAM. This card has never been used as far as I can tell since there are no markings on the DB9 connection or the gold contact pins. Also the manual is sealed as well as the hardware bag. On the card itself has a date stamp of 1984. Furthermore, I just would love to find more info about this card and if anyone has one too?

Thank you

The card allowed you to connect your Apple // to an AppleTalk network, which in those pre-Ethernet days was used (90% of the time) to talk to a networked LaserWriter printer.

There were AppleTalk file servers, but I don't recall if they were ever usable by Apple // computers.

True, what's odd is all I could find online is the Apple IIe Workstation Card which does the same thing however came out in 87. Mine is called literally Appletalk II card. Also the Workstation required 128k of RAM I believe. This card that I have pictured is earlier and uses a DB9 to connect to a external Apple Talk Box. I couldn't find any information on the model number of the card. Were there only a few Appletalk II cards manufactured before the workstation card had it's day view?

It's not a rare card but it's nice to see a fairly complete set in the box. Are you thinking of selling it on eBay?

Jerr,

I tell you the truth...
This is the first one I have actually ever seen.
I used to hear about them but until just now I've never seen one.

Amazing! Smile

Hi Steven,

Same here! That's wonderful. It is certainly unique and is amazing that the box is intact. I don't think it's has ever been used since there are no scratches on the gold plated contacts from inserting the card into a expansion bus.

Hmmm, I think I might sell it on ebay since I have no use for a Appletalk II card. I'm a Apple IIgs person...although I do have two II+. I have the original paperwork and box for one of my II+. It's amazing what you can find every now and then.

Let me know if you list it. I have a few of these cards, but no box, docs etc.

Well it sold as well as my A2E Joystick in the box. I'm pretty excited because this will fund my A2 Disk II SD Drive. It will look like a miniature Disk II drive and plug right into the drive port to allow dsk. images downloaded onto a sd card to run on a II II plus IIe IIc IIgs. I'm working on a website to build orders. I have a fully functioning prototype and will need to find a good PCB manufacture to send my eagle files.

Cool, I knew some one would want it in the condition it's in. How much you get for it?
Also post pics of your "Disk II SD Drive." Sounds like something I would buy.

Re: Can anyone tell me the history of the Apple II AppleTalk ...

Thank you! Well I got $155 for the AppleTalk and the same A2 enthusiast purchased my joystick for $60. I hope he takes good care of them and keeps everything together.

That's great, well I wont post photos yet since it's a mess of wires on a breadboard...literally lol. It works great though. Once I get a board made I'll keep yall posted. Right now it's emulating the disk II only. I'm using the atmega chip.

I'm also thinking about designing a interface card with the propeller to offer Ethernet and SD capability.

I also have another project I'm working on which is a small dynamically programmable robot through Basic via Bluetooth for the Apple II line which will come out in the next 4 months (is the goal). I'm going to sell a limited amount at a minimum of $150 per robot with the interface card. It's something to keep the A2 still Alive^_^

Thank you for the link Jay! They seem legit and I do like how they will assemble the components too.

Re: Can anyone tell me the history of the Apple II AppleTalk ...

I think it is quite rare today. I have never seen one on ebay in my life but dozens of workstation cards. If you google "Apple II AppleTalk Card", the only relevant answer you get is this thread! :O I can find tons on the WorkStation card and nothing else.

What sort of functionality does this card grant the likes of an Apple II? Would it have access to a file server?

I have huge interest in AppleTalk and run an FTP server from my 512K and it's HD20. I never thought the Apple 2 plus could ever have appletalk as the workstation card requires 128K ram and my plus only has it's maxed out 64K.

This has reignited my enthusiasm for the possibility of a networked II plus.

If anyone know where I could find one of these, I would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for this already present information, but as I stated, this is the only thread on the internet discussing the existence of such a card as far as I could tell.

I would like more information and somebody on this thread claimed to own many and was selling them. I found it logical to post here.
