New G5 iMac Spy Photo?

Have a look:

http://www.gadgetopia.com/2004/08/27/NewIMac.html

The box looks legit, and the "iMac" looks believable. I was in the CDG airport earlier this year, and the flooring shown in the photo is for real. I've poked around quite a bit today looking for more photos, but this is it so far. Hmph.

Whadyall think? Is it legit?

It does seem to make sense. T

It does seem to make sense. The design idea reminds me of the TAM- everything built behind a flat-panel screen. The grey is a bit drab, though.

It is a bit drab, but

it may just be the lighting. My guess is that they'd try to match the aluminum finish on the G5 tower.

We'll all find out for sure next week!

.

Doesen't look like it's real, to me at least.
'Course, that qualifies as a rumor by the old AF rulebook.
And rumors got threads deleted and on one occasion, got someone banned.

Anywho, if I'm wrong and it's real we'll see on tuesday.

Looks like a sensible design

Looks like a sensible design to me, too. I've always thought of the space behind a flatscreen as begging for some useful computer parts. A 17" LCD has more than enough room for a mobo, HD, optical drive, and ports. Of course, I know jt will complain bitterly and rant vocally about the lack of expansion - he seems to think that every computer user needs 6 PCi slots and 4 expansion bays. Wink

I suspect the rumor ban will be less stringent now that drbob is no longer a member of the cult of the black turtleneck.

Thats standard issue freight elevator flooring, probably seen all around the world.

Similar to special-build PC's...

I recall seeing something similar on the PC side while visiting someone in the hospital a while ago...a flat-screen monitor with a bunch of PC-style ports on the side. I assumed there was a motherboard wedged inside the case behind the monitor and concluded that it was a PC designed for a specific hospital application where mobility was a requirement, space at a premium, and cost only part of the equation. Being preoccupied with a visit to the ER, I really didn't give it much thought beyond that. I just assumed that bringing something like that to the consumer market would have a small audience because of the cost.

If that photo is accurate, I wouldn't be surprised at Apple leading the way with a high-end, high-performance "concept computer" that makes it to market based on that design.

Planar

That was probably a machine made by a company called Planar. They turn up on eBay from time to time, usually P-166s, with a few nifty features like PCMCIA slots and 12V DC power, and optional touchscreen.
