Early Apple II

HI All,

I thought it would be great to share my fortune with others who can appreciate its significance. I have been collecting computers for many years now. My first computer was an Ohio Scientific Challenger 1P way back in 1979, and I soon graduated to an Apple II Plus. From there I stood in line for the Mac 128K and basically, the rest is history. These computers launched my software engineering career which is still in full swing. Last weekend a co-worker called me up because one of his early Apple friends was cleaning out his storage locker and figured he could add to my museum/collection. Long story short, I am now in possession of a most significant unit so I thought I would share it with the Community here.

Here are a few photos:

Re: Early Apple II

Also in the package was the Original 8K of RAM that came with the machine and the Memory Blocks.

And I have never seen these in real life before (just in pictures!) but included were the original joy paddles.

The unit was upgraded to 48K (well 64K if you include the language card), and a disk drive...first 13 sector and then 16 sector, and Applesoft on a ROM Card.

This is awesome. It's in excellent condition. And it's the early "no vent" style. Very Nice.

Very nice. The Woz autograph and the nice low serial number only make it even better Smile

Re: Early Apple II

Drool doesn't cover it....

Wow, just, wow!!!!!

You can see Dan Kottke's filing marks by the space bar!!!! You should email him that picture of the space bar corner. He'd love it.

One final thing. Don't run that machine with all those cards in it and the cover on. You will warp the ventless case. Most were replaced by apple with the case we all know and love which is why ventless is beyond rare.

Re: Early Apple II

Those 4K memory blocks are really scarce - it's only the second set that I've seen (since the 70's anyway) - the other set can be seen in the Pop Up Museum in the Atlanta area.

regards,
Mike W.

Re: Early Apple II

Amazing. I think I'd be intimidated in the presence of such perfection. I'm pretty sure I'd be too scared to power it on and use it.
That Challenger sounds pretty awesome too. I don't think my life will be complete until I have a computer with wooden sides.

Re: Early Apple II

What did they say when you thanked them for giving you something worth probably $20,000-25,000?

You going to claim that on your taxes. and insure it?

Re: Early Apple II

Photobucket decided that hosting my images was costing them too much money and so asked me to upgrade my free account to one that would cost $400 per year. I decided to remove my 250 or so photos from Photobucket and host them myself. So... photos have been restored! Smile

Re: Early Apple II

I've got one of these carry bags with the unbitten Apple as well. It came with an Apple II that I bought 6-7 months ago. Are these particularly unusual?

Oh... and as it's been said before... amazing machine.

Re: Early Apple II

The unbitten apple is much rarer than the bitten one. So yes they are un-usual and would cost a couple of hundred bucks on eBay if you ever see one. The bitten ones come up about once a month or two.

Corey

Way to go man. Way to go!
Did it come with any documentation?

---

Everyone everywhere is complaining about photobucket
and other image hosting sites that are charging.
They get enough money through advertising.
