I press the power switch down, the green light comes one.
i waited about 10 minutes for the monitor to warm up.
But when I plugged in my apple, nothing shows up on the screen.
I turned all the nobs but nothing happens.
Whats going on and what can I do to fix this?
please bare in mind that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, so dumb it down for me.

Well, I'm pretty dumb, so I might be able to help
1 - make sure your computer outputs video on another monitor or TV. Alternatively, use a VCR, DVD player or anything that outputs video via RCA-Video (the yellow connector) to the monitor.
2 - If you get video with the other source, it may be a problem with your Apple.
3 - If still no video, try the knobs ONE BY ONE. Move one, test, move the second, test, the third, test.
If still no video, the monitor internals must be damaged.

Javster's got pretty much the best solution on this one. Unfortunately, monitors aren't exactly the things you can just open up and fix. If trying the knobs on the monitor fail, I wouldn't advise opening that thing up... who knows what kind of chemicals and radiation's running around inside.
If all fails, I would take it to a TV repair shop (if they still exist in your town) as they may be able to repair the broken part. Trying to repair it ourselves is not recommended, and may be really dangerous (electrocution, anyone?)

The knob on the side or the knobs on the back... or both?
If I'm correct, the knob on the side would be for contrast, the ones on the back would be for horiz/vert hold and alignment, as well as brightness. Try turning the brightness knob on the back all the way up. Does the screen go almost solid green? If so, then at least the tube is functional.

I went to local computer store today, and explained the problem. They looked as if I had lobsters crawling from my ears.
Well if you've turned the brightness dial all the way up and there was no change, your tube is bad in some way, or the power board is bad inside the monitor. Perhaps the vacuum seal was broken at some point, but either way, your electron gun is simply not firing. At this point, try to take it to a TV repair shop, but don't try and fix it yourself. Only bad things come from trying to fix a monitor.
