Composite Out A//e PAL or NTSC

So, I did a search, and couldn't really find a definate answer. I have my A//e connected to a TV card on my PC with a composite input. It displays, but it isn't good, and the picture 'bounces' for lack of a better word. I am not sure if the composite out is NTSC or PAL. From what I've read, it may not be purely either. I hooked up one of my Amigas to the board, and it bounced at first, but then settled down fine. What got me to thinking, is that the Amiga starts off in PAL, then, depending on a jumper, either stays PAL, or switches to NTSC. I have mine set for NTSC. When it comes up, it stabilizes and is fine. So, I am thinking the A//e, which is a Platinum, by the way, is maybe outputting a PAL signal, to the NTSC board in my PC, causing the 'bouncing'.

Look at the Chips inside.. Is the IOU Part # 344-0021??? This is the "(Input/Output Unit) International (50Hz/60Hz) IIe".

You might look through the "The Enhanced Apple IIe and Platinum IIe" section on the Apple's ASIC's page to see what kind of machine you have.

My video ROM is the 342-0265-A. It doesn't really say anything about it other than it is a Video ROM. Does that mean it would be a US NTSC version, as it shows a UK & German version with different versions?

If you live in the US and bought this system in US then the odds are in your favor that it supplies NTSC video.

The Apple IIe does not provide a clean video signal to begin with and you are running it through a A/D converter on your IBM computer.

Does your TV have a composite video input? Connect the Apple IIe to your TV and see what the picture quality looks like.

Looks like the "standard" Video ROM, not the UK ( 341-0160-A ) or the German ( 341-0161-A )..

What number is on the IOU ( 344-0020 or 344-0021 )??

That part is Different, for 60/50 Hz, verses the 60Hz in the US ( and CANADA and I assume Japan, since they have a Version of NTSC)..

It works fine on composite with the Monitor II monochrome monitor. I hooked it to a very small TV with no composite in, using a modulator, and it didn't look to good at all. I know those modulators are cheap, but the DVD player looks great through it.

I will check the IOU tonight and post what I find. May just be the low quality composite signal of the A//e, as the Amiga looks very sharp using the same connection.

IOU is the 344-0020, which shows as the US model 60 Hz. The problem must just be that the signal just isn't stable enough for the PC card. It looks fine on the Monitor II monochrome monitor, though. Weird.

Re: Composite Out A//e PAL or NTSC

Hello k4lmp,
what does the printing on the mainboard show up at the backpanel side close to the powersupply ?
At most IIe´s there is printed which kind of version the motherboard is and if it´s PAL or NTSC version....
and besides .... rather more than the IOU chip the HAL-chip ( at position C11 ) is important...
it´s responsible for the basefrequency of the videooutput and that is slightly different depending if its NTSC or PAL....
