Macintosh Plus Questions

A friend of mine has a Mac Plus that is is really good cosmetic condition (Next to no yellowing!) and it has the original keyboard. Unfortunately there are a few problems with his Mac Plus: 1) There is no mouse with it (a big downfall) and 2) it rattles when you move it. My questions are: 1) Is there any other device that can be used in place of a Mac Plus mouse (eg. Commodore 64 Joystick perhaps?) and 2) Is the rattle going to be detrimental to the system, and if so, what could be causing it and how could it be fixed?

Re: Macintosh Plus Questions

1.) Basically, no. You need a mouse for the Mac. You can also use the Apple IIe mouse, since it has the same connector. Mac Plus-compatible mice can be had fairly cheap. Don't pay more than $10 for one.

2.) Do you know if it's a rattle like a loose screw, or something else? Just about anything loose in the case is a problem, especially metal, because it could cause a short-circuit.

Re: Macintosh Plus Questions

The rattle is most likely a loose screw, and there is probably a mouse for it floating around his office somewhere. So instead of attempting to revive this show-piece, another friend has a Mac Plus that is in about the same condition but with a better keyboard (again, no mouse - What is it with Mac Pluses and missing mouses?) that he has graciously allowed me to assist him with restoring. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. (Including a reasonably priced mouse!)
