Ive just purchased a //e from ebay the seller mentioned 'some sort of serial card' and an unknown card, i was wondering if anyone can tell from the picture what they are, im not sure which is the 'serial card' but the description the seller gave me is it has two 25 pin connectors and what they think is a ZiLog dual serial controller chip and only have images provided by the seller, the black box card is the unknown one. any help would be great, ill upload clearer pictures when she arrives.
cheers, Charlie

Hello redviper-x,
Based on both the slot numbers and the picture, here is the list of the cards :
Slot 1 : Probably a parallel card (it missed the cable)
Slot 2 : Serial card (with DB25 connector at the back I guess)
Slot 3 : 80 column card
Slot 4 : Unknow card
Slot 6 : Disk II card
When you get the machine, you can try to type PR#4 from the prompt and see what happened.
It will be very difficult to identify this card since there is no writing on it.
thanks, when i get it ill find out more. but still it's a working //e with a disk drive, and DOS 3.3 and Pro Dos disks with it, just hoping the serial card with work with ADT Pro
It will only work if it's hardware-compatible with Apple's SSC. It will be helpful to see a closeup of the card, but it doesn't look promising.
if the serial card isn't compatible, i should still be able to utilise the null modem setup they describe on the ADT site?
Well, not for ADT or ADTPro, no. They both bang on the SSC at the hardware level. Sure, you can hook a null modem to it and do some communications with it - once you learn how to talk to it (potentially through the firmware interface - i.e. PR#2/IN#2).
I could be wrong, but I remember seeing a card like the one in Slot 4 with a black box many moons ago, or reading about it. I believe that it may be a Modem. Like I said; I could be wrong.
could you post a side view of the chips it could be a pia; i/o of some kind
Give us complete pictures of the cards, front and back. Then it should be no problem.
I can also x-ray that card for you and get you a complete diagram and list of components used, including resistor and capacitor values. Complete list of TTL ?? Of course..
I built some clones of the Gibson LightPen this way.
