i was wondering if there was a way to put tiger from the dvd onto cds. i have an old iMac (tray loading, 333MHZ) running panther/os9.2.1, and i want to try to update it a little more to tiger before i give it to my Aunt. i know that i can use xpostfacto 4 to make it run tiger, but i still need it to be on dvd. any suggestions? maybe just leave it at panther?

One could order Tiger on CD's. I don't know if you still can, though.
i already have it on cd, but it is about 1200 miles away from me, but i brought the dvd w/ me
I remember looking into this a long time ago, and the general consensus is that you cannot make your own install CDs from a Tiger DVD. You're stuck using the official Tiger install CDs.
... is there a place i can download the cd dmgs? as i already said, i own both the cds and dvd, so i think this would be ok.
You're on your own there. Posting links to downloads for copyrighted software from unauthorized sources (i.e. warez) is highly frowned upon here.
Dr. Webster is correct of course. The CD images are available online, but you'll have to find them yourself or seek help at another site.
As an FYI, the Tiger CD set is 4 CDs, but Disc 4 is the Developer Tools and Disc 3 is printer drivers. So you only need Discs 1 and 2 to install the OS - and, IIRC, they're separated pretty clearly, e.g. Disc 1 is the core OS and Disc 2 contains the basic apps (Safari, Mail, iCal, Address Book, iTunes, and so on).
So, by making an image of the DVD and removing packages, it might be possible to burn a bootable CD that would install the OS; and then from there you might be able to simply directly install each application by manually double-clicking on its installer pkg file.
And finally, you could manually install the drivers for your brand of printer.
Check this web store for Tiger on CDs. http://www.allmac.com/shop/index.php?cPath=5_10003
