upgrade AHA-29160N (from PC) to APD-29160N for Mac

What should be done to flash card AHA-29160N in DOS or Windows to use it in Mac? Firmware for APD is hqx format(
http://download.adaptec.com/mac/scsi/29160_v10_flash_util.hqx), for AHA in bin format ( http://download.adaptec.com/eprom_bios/29160N_bios_3100.exe). Thank you.

HQX is a compression format l

HQX is a compression format like ZIP GZ and RAR. The big issue with HQX and Windows is that Windows doesn't keep the file forks that the Mac HFS uses. It shouldn't be a big issue, but when extracting the HQX file you'll probably want the data fork for the ROM image.

HQX expand

I expanded hqx file with the help of StuffItExpande for Windows, but in the window of this programm I see 3 files: 29160N v1.0 Flash Utility (size 113K), Adaptec's Flash Utility.pdf (size 64K), Read Me (size 3K), and I alredy expand 6 files: ._29160N v1.0 Flash Utility (size 134K), ._Adaptec's Flash Utility.pdf (size 1K), ._Read Me (size 1K), 29160N v1.0 Flash Utility (size 38K), Adaptec's Flash Utility.pdf (size 90K), Read Me (size 6K). Moreover files containing in their names ._ aren`t opened in Windows. Do differences in sizes and quantity appear becuase of errors of expanding in other OS? How is it possible to get image BIOS from 29160N v1.0 Flash Utility?

IIRC, the last time I flashed an Adaptec SCSI card to Mac I did it in a Mac.

flashed an Adaptec

At the moment the card is designed to be used РС, therefore it is not detected by MacOS. And for flashing it is necessary that the card is detected by OS during booting. I want to use this card with Mac.

Your Mac may not be seeing th

Your Mac may not be seeing the card, but the flash utility, when you run it on your Mac, will. Usually when you run a flash utility it will ask you if you want to flash the card it sees in the PCI slot. Make sure it's the right card (you should remove all other PCI cards, except the necessary video card). Click yes, bingo, it's done. I did that with an AHA2940 PC SCSI card with no problem. Since you have a 29160N and are going to flash it with a 29160 firmware, it's possible there could be problems, don't know. Mac versions of those cards should be pretty cheap already if flashing is a problem. I think I've seen them sell for less than $5 on eBay.

BTW, you need to take the parentheses off your links in order for them to work, and the period. Especially when using links, you should preview and test your original posts.

You want to flash a PC PCI ca

You want to flash a PC PCI card from PC to Mac but you don't have a Mac. I won't even ask. Good luck.

With video card flashing you boot from a bootable floppy that has the utility and Mac ROM on it and run it from there. Don't know about SCSI.

The ._ files are probably the Resource forks of the files. The ones with normal names are likely the Data forks.
