Apple IIgs color video

Just received my 'new' Apple IIgs and it works great. Except .... It's got a monochrome monitor and I sure would like color. Any easy ways ? Possible to connect a LCD monitor ? I'll be looking for an Apple II rgb but who knows it that will happen.

Other than the AppleColor RGB Monitor, the designed for the GS, your choices are slim. Here's the list of other options:

Commodore 1084 models and equivalents like the Magnavox Professional 80
Sony CPD 1302 MultiSynch
NEC MultiSync (original), MultiSync II, MultiSync 3D
Commodore 1902 (although most of these only do digital RGB)
Tandy CM-8 (not sure about model but it was used with the Coco3)
Atari SC1224 (used with the ST series)

There are some TVs that can be used with a SCART cable/converter. A modern LCD is completely out of the question unless you're willing to spend a couple hundred dollars on a converter box to hook the GS to and then the box to the LCD.

Your best bet is to check eBay, or some thing like Craigslist, to try and find an AppleColor RGB Monitor.

There was a discussion on CSA2 about the price that monitor went for. The last person who commented posted this link: http://ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html for an RGB to VGA converter. It sells for just $92 and they sell a separate cable to use to hook the converter to an LCd display, or other modern monitor. The cable is only $10.

I might just have to check it out. I do have an AppleColor Monitor but it would be nice to be able to use the LCD I have my Mac hooked up to display the stuff my GS is running also.

Extra added: Just read another post in that same discussion. The poster explained that this device won't work with the GS because of the Analog RGB signal from the GS. I guess I should be glad that I didn't waste any money on this.

Whoever said that adapter wou

Whoever said that adapter would not work with the GS was dead wrong. Chances are, he read that the adapter converts CGA and immediately assumed that it does not support analog RGB, but if you read further on, this monitor supports all 15Khz Analog RGB. The Apple IIGS outputs 15Khz Analog RGB. Ergo, this adapter will work with the IIGS.
