I stumbled acrossed this forum trying to find information about the Apple IIgs I aquired along side of the road. It seems to be a IIgs Motherboard in a IIe Case and rebadged Apple IIgs.. How rare are these units is what im curious about.

There was an upgrade kit available to turn the IIe into a IIgs.

According to the link, there probably aren't that many of them around.
Well I guess it was a good find then.. The case is badly yellowed. So I'll be on the hunt for a top case.. other than that I found out its a ROM 01 IIgs. I have a IIe Platinum with the number pad.. however id rather not butcher that one since its mint. Ill post some pics today
Look for the second generation IIe case. The first IIe case, the one that was similar to the II and II+ (many had white key symbols) doesn't have the case screw holes in the right place. The second type of case, the one that yellows real easy, is unfortunately the one you want. I have a IIgs upgrade that came in a very yellowed case. After some searching, I did find a mint IIe case that it now lives in (away from the sun).
Dave...
Thats weird, a double post. BTW, the IIgs upgrade is fairly rare and will probably fetch a few $100's on ePay.
Upon Closer inspection of this IIgs upgrade unit I found a card in there that says 16 Channel A-D Converter Copyright 1981 John Bell Engineering. It has 2 9 Pin serial ports attached to the back of the computer.. the serial ports are soldered wire by wire to the A-D converter under 2 IC's
You scored.
holy crap, I have that EXACT same card. I got it in one of my IIgs woz editions I got. What color is the PCB? Mine is a milky white, almost like a prototype, and hand soldered connectors. The connectors were not bolted to the back case, nor were any cables included.
good to see I am not the only person with one.

Yeah the PCB is milky white and hand soldered connectors.. Same exact one. I have no idea what it was used for. I found my unit along side a dirt road out near grand ledge mi when I was out testing the new GPS to see if i could get lost
sweet, that's less than 100 miles of me, just on the other side of Lansing.
