I originally got this computer for me and I put a password in it. I now added my friend as another user. I don't remember my password and the only way in now is his - Is there anyway to reset passwords or user names or something-a way I can get inside and at least change that password or something-I have tried all my passwords!

I've got basically the same problem. I have an old OS 8 CD to boot from. Can I just delete some files in the Multiple Users preferences to nix the user profiles, and if so, which files?
Any takers? Seems to happen to more than a few people...
Hey there, I am having this same problem with a computer that I bought off a friend in trouble. It is a Powerbook g3 and has two accounts on it that both have passwords. I was wondering if anyone has replied to your query, and if so could you pass the knowledge along? Thanks , Mac fan
I dont know much about multiple users in os 9 but i know that in X you can boot up off the install CD and reset passwords. I am guessing that in os9 its in a prefrence file under some multiple users folder. You might be able to just deleet that whole folder or do a custom install of the multiple users packages. Maby someone else will know more about the spacifics of the file names or something but thats the best I got.
Ok, good suggestion, but I coincidentaly tried this today with a os x cd. It looked likje what I needed to do, But it would not work because of the os being 9 instead of OX. So I guess I need a os 9 .1 Cd . Anybody know where to get a free one? Thanks for the input , it was the most ive gotten out of anybody so far.
Go to http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/page.php?cat=1301&id=1014 and follow the instructions there. My file wasn't called "Multiple Users Preferences" but I went ahead and deleted anything that was similar to that as well as anything that said "login." When I restarted, the password prompt was gone, and I had my old computer back!
