So I want to share some stuff on a local area network, and I want anyone and everyone to be able to access a folder or drive and anything in the folder or drive from any type of computer. aka open share. I googled around a bit, and it seems I need osx server? but then it is said that I can do this without os x server. any ideas? all the things I have found on google are outdated. I am running 10.4.11
Ideas are welcome.
The biggest issue are what other computers/OSs are going to be connecting? You can have open files shares in regular OS X by just using Sharing in Prefs and setting it for AFP, SMB FTP, etc..
SMB/CIFS or ftp both would be fine, however, I can not specify a folder or drive to them. it would be disastrous to have an open share, and have my personal info in the clear and visible to everyone.
What version of Mac OS? On 10.5 you can specify specific folders to share.
Have you come across or tried This?
that was one of the things I came across when I first was searching google. However, it was written in 2001, and the steps do not work for 10.4.11
i have found a option
http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
