Mounting virtual drives over appletalk

I am using Toast 7 on Tiger to mount a CD image, and I want to share it but OS 9 cannot see the virtual drive... I just wanna play Carmageddon 2. Sad

Well I would but I lack blank CDs... So I just wanted to know if I could mount virtual drives over appletalk.

or . . . X to Classic?

I think that Carm2 wants a real CD, unless you've got a no-CD crack (at least that's my recollection.) So I don't think a disk image mounted anywhere will be of any use. Also, IIRC, the gameplay sucks for some now-unremembered reason in Classic, better to boot to classic MOS (if you can) and play there. Just go and buy some CD-Rs and burn the thing.

And for those who look askance at my comment, I own a legit copy of Carm2 and got sick and tired of having to dig out the CD everytime I wanted to play, so that's how I know about this particular game's issues.

My own question is, why aren't (some) disk images mounted in X available to Classic?

I am not sure, I kinda just assumed 9 would not know how to mount them... I will try it.

And I never had issues with the gameplay in the demo, but I am using a Voodoo card, so maybe it runs better with it? It always ran smooth for me.

Edit: I tried using Toast 4.1.2 to mount it, full system freeze. Sad

Holy manoly!

You're using a Voodoo card in X to play 3D games in Classic?!!? Too cool, though I'm wondering if you're really seeing 3DFX acceleration or if you're just playing in Rave software mode (being as there ain't any OSX Voodoo drivers to be had.)

BTW, what's the box on which all this fun is happening? And which Voodoo card have ya got?

No I am running in OS 9.1. The OS X machine I mentioned is a Mac Pro.

The machine with a Voodoo 2 is a 420mhz G3 with 256MB RAM.

oh, _now_ you mention it's _two_ machines!

Umm, coulda mentioned that to begin with. I got the idea you were working with one Mac running X and Classic.

From an OS9 Mac you can remotely mount (using the Chooser and AppleShare) virtual volumes mounted on an OSX machine.

Try using diskimagemounter to mount the CD image. Hold the control key while clicking the image file and select Open using...: diskimagemounter from the contextual menu.

I still think you'll need a real CD, although my memory might be fawlty.

I did mention that to begin with, I just didn't do a very good job of explaining it. Blum 3
