Within 3 hours of receiving the photos they got back to me saying that they recognized it but could not legally (because of non-disclosure/confidentially agreements) give me any info about my prototype or any other prototype. They congratulated me on having it, but said that it should not have ever left the control of Apple or the employee who it was entrusted to."

Green Color Classic II
I also own a Green Color Classic II. The difference with mine is that it is ALL green. Even the back. It too has "Engineering sample" on the tube, as well as hand written notes on some of the logic board chips. If anyone is interested in seeing more, I will post pictures.

Notice the difference between the logic board on this site, and mine. There are many differences, most notably the single RAM slot.
I got the Mac from an ex-Apple engineer in California.
By the way, it still works GREAT!

well, I saw the pics. it looks better than this. btw, do you have a matching mouse and/or KB, or do you have to use the platnium? because platnium with green looks bad. oh, if you were to sell it (which I know you wont), how many tousands would you sell it for? plus, I just saw one of the green CC's (not II) on eBay a few weeks ago. went for $2,000 something. that makes 2 CC green prototypes. any more? -digital

Yes, how do these prototypes get out of henhouse? I've still got my Powermac 9700 PowerExpress motherboard which came to me from who knows where? I sure don't know. People on the inside making a little black market scratch? Why in the world do they care now about confidentiality for a machine almost 20 years old? Simply because they signed a contract once, but really, why not divulge the details of such obsolete technology? They should just get approval to disseminate for the Mac enthusiast community which is an important section of their consumer base instead of just letting it all rot away in their vaults. An occasional stimulation of the Mac enthusiasts with shelved details seems like a smart part of a long term sales stategy to me. Or maybe not? Maybe these don't escape, but instead, are sent out. Maybe the challenge of autopsying these alien bodies that fall out of the sky is the better gift for all you guys and gals? Some people, you know, claim the Roswell craft and its occupants was a purposeful planned sacrifice from which the design of those chips you're looking at originated. Nanu nanu.
I wonder why they decided not to produce these emeralds? Too toy looking? It's so cool looking. I'd think at least half their sales would probably have gone to such a machine. I'd have preferred it. Don't want to tempt owners to open their cases? Difficulty producing the plastics? Don't the clear plastics have a shorter life than the opaque stuff?
Needs some interior lighting, though.
