Not going to happen

Sorry, not possible.

It'd be like trying to stick a PowerPC into an Intel box...or sticking an AMD processor into an Intel box, if you prefer a wincentric analogy.

A completely different motherboard is required to support the different processor.

Or..

Will a Quicksilver boot into OS 9? If you only want to run Windows (rather that Intel Mac OS X), you could consider one of the various PC Compatibility PCI cards, that have an x86 processor on them. They won't be fast, and they won't let you run Intel OS X, and I think they'll only run up to Win98SE. And you need to boot into OS 9 to use them.

But they will be cheap.

Not Possible

Sorry dude the motherboards are totally different so it's simple an Intel Processer will not fit in a PowerPC computer. But if you're craving speed have a sonnet upgrade here's a url to look at some different Sonnet Upgrades http://www.welovemacs.com/prupn.html

apologies to danamania

It's possible that this might work...

Wink

So, I've been meaning to apologize for getting her site slashdotted for years.

I should apologize for getting this to every major enews outlet throughout the world, but its pretty funny to read this in russian!

Still think this is my big mark on the interweb, too bad it's someone else's gag. More believable that way, but...

the orange micro PC 660 will officially run up to windows ME. i have seen a few places the mentions that they seen XP trying to install on one. but the drive container isnt big enough to handle it. altho the PC 660 can handle up to a AMD K6-3 500mhz cpu with the proper voltage ( a zif plug in) and can handle 256mb ram and has a AGP rivia 128 4mb vram onboard video ( which isnt much) but is enough to maybe run XP and a somewhat useable speed.

i have a PC 660 but no install cd so right now its useless, i am trying to find the install cd so i can use it. but that is hard to find.

but sorry you cant install a intel CPU into a PPC Mac , the intel CPU requires different support then what the PPC mobo's provide ( totally different architecture ) a G4 i (dont think) can even use a G5 cpu cause again its way different in some ways to the G4 cpu, plus it would melt a hole in the mobo.

yea since the orange micro site is no longer online, and web archive dont archive files over 10MB (as told to me from someone at web archive) which i think they didnt even bother to archive most of the orange PC software,

i am in talks with someone in making me a image of the CD that came with his PC 660 so i can install the drivers so i can use mine (since mine didnt come with the CD), i have not herd back from him in a wile.

i did find a place that has the APP alone but that alone wont allow you to use the card ( it just gives you the error, the card is not responding to your macintosh. please restart the computer and try again).

i have not tried the PCSetup2x for the apple cards ( i know it adds 32bit ability to them), also i have herd there is allot of issues with it. i wish the PCSetup2x would work with the orange PC.

Millenium?

I think I would opt for Win2K instead. I´ve gotten installs of Pro down to ... I think it was 300MB? The ISO was 90-something MB if I remember properly.

Gotcha

I just went with an OS in line with the max supported CPU; wasn´t thinking about drivers.

If you REALLY want an Intel CPU...

Maybe just replace the whole guts with an Intel compatible motherboard and use the http://www.osx86project.org/ OS X installer. Rather illegal as I recall as the EULA specifies that OS X must run on Apple hardware. Well, the case is Apple, doesn't that count? :^)
