I've got an G3 400Mhz iMac slot loading that was working fine with 512mb of ram
installed running 9.2.2 OS 9. But I wanted to upgrade to OS X, I upgraded using
OS X 10.4 Tiger X4 CD installer which all seem to go fine if just abit on the slow side.
Once OS X 10.4 had installed I did system check to see if everything was registering,
but to my surprise the iMac was only registering 128mb of ram.
I know from past experience certain ram is funny with certain imac's but if the ram
with ok with OS 9, why won't it register as 512mb under OS X 10.4
Any help would be greatfull.
Would a slighly older version of OS X work, as I know 10.4 is funny about ram issues on
older macs????

Try Zapping the PRAM but it's possible too that the ram slot could have died and then in that case then I have no idea what to do.
firmware update?
Good thought, but in this case ...
If the firmware weren't up-to-date, he'd have gotten a black screen as soon as he booted to an OS X disc. Dang, I hate when that happens. It's possible to recover from such an error, but you've got to jump through a LOT of hoops to get there. Ask me how I know.
My first guess is corrosion on the RAM stick or foreign mater in the RAM slot. Pull out the RAM, blow out the dust bunnies, and go over the RAM's gold leads *very gently* with a pencil eraser. Reseat the RAM and try again. Report your findings and let us know if anything changed.
I'd like to read the findings as well. I have a friend that has a school iBook that won't recognize the ram module in the slot. Out of ten boots it only saw it once.
