Keyboards that turn on PeeCees

I have been thinking. I know the macs had keyboard that had a power button on the keyboard. But one thing has been picking at me mind.
I have an option in my bios to look to the keyboard for the option to turn on by pressing a button on the keyboard. This means, there HAS to be a keyboard for the PC with a powerbutton built-into it. Problem is, i can't *Find* any. I don't know where to look, and I don't know if it has to be USB, or if it can be PS/2. I REALLY would like to find one to impress my friends that I can turn on the pc the same as I can my macs. By a button on the keyboard.

Anyone got any insight into what this might be, and where it might be found? or, could i use an old apple USB Keyboard that has a Powerbutton on it? like from the early iMac series?

Or do I have the wrong impression?

I once hacked a power button

I once hacked a power button onto a PS/2 KB, hooking it onto the internal power button hookup.
I also have had computers with the bios option for KB poweron, but have yet to see or even hear of a built in button.

that'd be neat taking the wir

that'd be neat taking the wires that normally hook up to the pc's power button but instead rigging them up to a push button held inside the casing of a staples easy button. so you press the easy button and the pc turns on.

The only experience I've got

The only experience I've got with such a thing is on a corporate HP Vectra PII box.

For keyboard power-on, it continued to monitor for ps/2 input while powered down, and if the space bar was pressed, powered up.

A possibility

I have a mini USB keyboard that has a sleep button on it. It actually triggers the OSX "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" window. Maybe a keyboard like it would work.

Back in the ADB days, the sof

Back in the ADB days, the soft power method worked because when the power button is pressed, it shorts a circuit that causes the computer to turn on.

I have no idea how it works with the USB keyboards. maybe the same way.

since no computer I know of has a soft power support, your best bet would to be do what somebody else said, and wire a button on the keyboard to the power switch.

too bad the griffin airclick USB doesnt have a power button, or you could turn on your PC/Mac from 60 feet!!

a guy can dream...

Dr. Bob has posted that they

Dr. Bob has posted that they did a similar trick with the USB for the NewWorlds. They also ended up removing the hack, circa the 400MHz iMac DV, to be more USB compilant.

not anymore?

so the current white keyboards dont have a power button? I havnt looked at one one yet, because I LOVE my AppleDesign board. most cofortable board ever. Plus I can turn my computer on by pressing a button on it, instead of reaching down under my desk to turn on the computer from the front panel.

There hasn't been a power but

There hasn't been a power button'd Apple keyboard in 5 years. The older keyboards still work with some later machines but I'm pretty durn sure it didn't work anymore on my iMac 400 DV.

I finally found a keyboard with a power button.

I was at school and I noticed a Windows keyboard with a power button. I did not try out the power button to see if it worked, though. It was a Logitech Classic Corded Keyboard.

iMac older keyboard power switch on other mac's . . .

I made a thrift store purchase of an iMac blueberry keyboard with the power switch on it the other day. The said power button will start up and shut down my TiPowerbook 500. Anyone ever try this with a modern Mac? (Think I'll try it with the girlfriends' iMac G4 700.)

HOWTO turn on PeeCees

* Use a Mac, of course.

* We go to the "Start" menu and choose "Shutdown" to shutdown windows, so go logically we go to the "Shutdown" menu, and choose "Start" to start windows. Purfically logical.

* RTFM

* Hold down the scroll lock key while simultaneously pressing F15 and the context menu key and scroll down to the "Power On" menu item using the arrow keys on the numerical pad and then press Return, I mean Enter to select, I mean the other Enter key, except you can't scroll there because the scroll is locked because you are holding down the scroll lock key.

* Press the any key. Wink
